The Battery Tender Plus 12-volt/1.25-amp Battery Charger is much more than a trickle charger. Powered by BTP microprocessor technology, it has a "brain". Utilizing a 4-step charging program (initialization, bulk charge, absorption mode and float mode), it allows you to simply connect the charger to a battery, either in or out of a vehicle, and forget about it until you are ready to put the battery to work. Like all Battery Tender chargers, at the end of the regular charger cycle the it automatically switches its output voltage to a safe, storage or float level that eliminates the need to worry about the damaging effects of overcharging, and the resulting need to check on the condition of the battery. If or when the battery voltage drops too far under load, output power resumes and the charging cycle begins again.  Battery Tender Lights Failure November 1, 2009

This Battery Tender is a replacement to cover the time period while the original I purchased was sent back for repair.
There are two lights on the front of the unit. A red light indicating the unit is charging and a green light indicating the unit is in a maintenance mode.
After three years both lights had failed and I no longer trusted the unit as I didn't even know if the unit was on, much less whether it was charging or in maintenance.
The good thing is that the units are warranted for 10 years, but you do have to pay $12.95 to have a unit repaired under that warranty.

This one charges fast & indicates what the status of the charge is including when it's finished charging. Fully automated so you don't have to worry about overcharging. I recommend this line of chargers to friends & would buy this model again. It's better than my current very similar Yuasa 1.5amp charger that never indicates that the charge is complete no matter how long I leave it connected.

I've got two bikes that I alternate riding: a Harley Sportster for serious road work and a Suzuki GZ250 for around town rides. (Before you snort derisively at my "Suzi" I figure I could save $20-30 a month in those little one off errands that eat up gas mileage!)
The Suzuki, which isn't fuel injected, tends to run cold at first and on occasion I've ground battery down into non-existence just trying to start it. Sure you can jump-start it, but unless your going to run around in circles just to charge the battery up, you're just setting yourself up to be stranded somewhere else.
The Battery Tender changes all that. Since I spend most of my two-wheeled time on the Harley, the Suzi will sit for as long as two weeks. By keeping the Battery Tender hooked up, maintaining a constant charging level, I'm always ready to roll.
Easy to use, very safe, always reliable and reasonably priced. A must have for the weekend warrior, whether it's your motorcycle or motorboat.
