Compact and easy to mount on your windshield.

The XTR-140 also features Whistler's new attention grabbing feature, the dual LED alert periscope. Two blue LED's sit atop the XTR-140 and flash when you receive an alert, helping to grab your attention.

The Whistler XTR-140 includes an Alert Priority feature, which makes sure the most important alert is displayed if multiple alerts are detected. A battery saver option turns off your detector automatically if you forget.

Laser Audio / Visual Alerts
When a laser signal is detected, the display indicates alert by illuminating the "V/L" and scrolling the signal strength indicators from right to left or display indicates an L on the display. The audio alert is continuous for a minimum of 3 seconds.

Dual LED Alert Periscope
Whistler's new Dual LED Alert Periscope provides an additional attention getting visual alert. The two extra LED's flash on and off when the unit alarms to provide a unique visual alert. This alert can be programmed, through the Option Select Mode to: 1. flash for all alarms, 2. remain on, or 3. turn LEDs off completely.

City vs. Highway Mode
Highway mode provides full audio and visual warning of laser/radar systems while maintaining full sensitivity. Highway mode is the default setting of all Whistler's laser/radar detectors. City mode helps reduce the annoyance of automatic door openers and burglar alarm alerts by providing an initial alert (same distance as Highway Mode) then remaining quiet unless the signal strength becomes very strong. When the signal increases the unit will alert briefly to notify you of the change in signal strength.

Quiet Mode and Auto Quiet Mode
Quiet Mode cancels audio during an alert and any new alert within 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, approximately 2 beeps are provided on any new alert and unit then remains quiet. Auto Quiet reduces the selected audio level to level (1) approximately 5 seconds after a radar or safety radar signal is detected. The alert for any new signal within 20 seconds will resume at level (1). Auto Quiet does not affect VG-2 or laser alerts.

5 out of 5 stars This Radar Detector ROCKS!!!!!!   November 10, 2009
Kim A. Rawls (Acra, NY)
If you are on a budget and want a radar detector, then you should get the Whistler xtr 140. This thing is awesome. The radar reception is good and the blinking periscope looks cool when it goes off at night when you encounter radar.Check out the reviews. Out of 77 reviews, it got 4 out of 5 stars. There are 200 dollar radar detectors that don't get that high of a review and how embarrasing for them. If you want a solid radar performer for the least amount of money, then you can't go wrong with the Whistler xtr 140. Kudos to Whistler!!!

3 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for!   November 8, 2009
TrUsTiNnOoNe! (San Diego)
I got this Whistler to replace my old 2 year $200 RD. Well this one doesn't offer you POP mode, so if you get caught in an instant radar/laser check you will get no warnings before you get hit! Well the first 3 months or so when I bought this Whistler, it worked great! I got about 99% out of 100% radar/laser warnings. I did notice that after 3 months this radar detector isn't working as good as it did for the first 90 days.

This radar detector works great for photo and red light camera detection. It doesn't work so good on the highway or city traveling. I haven't received any tickets yet, but I would say this RD gives alot of false warnings. If you do have more money to spend, I would get another brand. The XTR-140 has served me well so far but I think I will be making a change to another RD with POP mode. The visuals led at nights is cool, and the twin alert flashes is also a great feature.

This RD is for a casual driver who drives from home to work. I wouldn't try to use this RD for road trips or long trips between city to city. You get about a 1/4 mile range with this. In the city I would say about 1,000 feet or less or buyer beware!

2 out of 5 stars items missing from package   November 6, 2009

It came out of the package with the suction cups and little bracket missing. Whistler wont send them, have to be purchased. So never have gotten to use this to see if it works.

4 out of 5 stars Good Unit for the Price   October 23, 2009

My first radar detector was a Whistler unit that lasted me nearly eight years. At the end of its life, it would power down randomly and the volume tab didn't work too well. The unit's longevity and overall accuracy convinced me that the brand was solid enough for me to get another Whistler product, and I selected the Whistler XTR-140 for my second outing.

The XTR-140 is very much an update of my previous unit with some new bells and whistles thrown in for good measure. The main positive features of this unit include twin LED alerts that can be activated or deactivated and really grab the driver's attention if, say, your radio is loud enough to drown out the audio alerts. There's also a city mode that allows the user to turn off the X-Band sensitivity entirely, which really helps weed out erroneous signals when you're cruising around town. This is coupled with Whistler's standard 360-degree protection grid, which detects signals from both directions before and after you've passed them.

If there's one downside to this unit, it is perhaps that it is too sensitive. I get a lot more false readings on the XTR-140 than on my previous unit. Many times I simply ride around the with X-Band sensitivity turned completely off. Is this a fair price to pay for a unit that's extremely accurate and takes a "better safe than sorry" stance? I think so, but other drivers may find it annoying.

5 out of 5 stars Amazed!   October 15, 2009
A. you (NC)
I was very nervous buying a $40 dollar radar detector but after countless hours on the web looking at reviews, videos, and comments I'm very happy I choose this detector. I wanted a detector that worked but I didnt want to spend 100s of dollars. I dont fully depend on this thing even though it saved me twice now(its been about 3 days since i bought it!) but i use it as a tool to beaware of my speed when cops are near. I actually have the xtr-150 but its the same thing. I got it at radio shack for the same price. Here are some pros and cons

Pros:
-Looks great, its black and it blends with my dash. I didnt want silver
-Two blue lights. I have two 12inch subs and I needed a detector that would have lights to get my attention. These things are great! Its gets my attention easily at night and when its sunny they still do their job
-Simple use. There is pretty much no settings to it, I just plug it up and go and has worked great!
-It works! I bought it about 3 days ago and it saved me twice! The detector goes off an easy 200 to 300 yards from the radar. Plenty of time to slow down if your doing a good 10 over. Anything more will be risky and probably a ticket.
-Mounting- Again my subs shake my car like crazy and I needed a great mount, suction cups are amazing and work perfectly.
-Power cord- Nice and long(not coiled) You can pretty much mount it anywhere on your dash and it will reach!

Cons:
-For the price there is not really any cons, it does its job for a $40 RD and I love it!

I gave it a 5 star because its a PERFECT under 50 dollar RD. Dont depend on it 100% but its a great tool and just all around amazing and simple to use. It works great for what I need it for and nothing more! Get it, you wont be dissapionted!
