 Refurbished crap November 25, 2009

I bought this refurbished crap for [...]$. Unlike few others who've reported the maps on this device to be pretty old, I did not have a problem with them
It seemed to work fine for about a month. Then the software keyboard started malfunctioning. I can't press the column of keys on the left end of the keypad. If i try to press them, the keys to their right get pressed. As a result, I can't type in anything meaningful (as most places have the letters "a" or "e").
I am using it as a "homing device" to navigate back to my home if i get lost (as thats the only address I had keyed in before this crap stopped working).

I purchased this refurbished unit thinking it would be just as good as a new TomTom 150, I'm sorry to say, not so much. The main issue I'm having with the unit is that it takes you the long way around to get somewhere. I used it to go between 2 destinations that I've traveled many times, just to test it out, and sorry to say, it took me on a long, out of the way road trip. The shortest distance between 2 points is still a straight line, but this unit thinks a figure 8 is more appropriate! I'm not sure why this is the case, but it is. I guess you get what you pay for!

I will never again travel without my Tom Tom GPS Navigator. I am amazed at the amount of information this unit presents. The only fault I find is that it does not always give the most direct route to my local destination. I purchased a very basic, but adequate model and am so impressed I am going to upgrade it very soon.
Great value, confusing with the Free Map Update November 13, 2009

The GPS is great for the price. It's refurbished but one could barely notice. The Free Map Update is really a luck thing, if you get a code in your box you get it, if you don't...you don't. I didn't get a code in my box, only a note from TomTom telling me it was a refurbished unit and a phone number to call support if I needed. I called just to ask for the free map update and was told that refurbished units didn't apply for it since they are already sold at discount prices. All in all the system works great, it's easy to use and it's good for the price. The rebate is a nice touch,but I'm waiting to see how long it takes to go through.
