Nice Product, Atrocious Customer Support November 27, 2009 Occam49 (USA) I purchased my 4370 as refurbished special. The unit I received looked brand new and came complete with all accessories. I updated the firmware using the Magellan utility.
The 4370 works quite well and except for screen size, is equal to or better than the built-in navigation units that I have used in Cadillac, Honda, and Acura cars that I've owned. The features I like best are: Lane Assist, and Smart Zoom. I've had no locks ups, or other problems. My only complaint, other than the support issue noted below, is that the screen is very reflective.
My problem is with Magellan Technical Support. Or, should I say lack of support. My problem is that the Magellan on-line product registration system refuses to accept the serial number of my unit even though Magellan has confirmed my serial number is valid Two telephone calls to support, and six or seven emails to Magellan have failed to correct the problem which has been ongoing for almost a month.
Until I'm able to register my 4370, I can not activate my free trial of live traffic.
Best GPS I ever owned November 27, 2009 John L. Bisnette (Kansas) From the moment I took the 4370 out of the box I knew it would be good, The fact that you can have multiple stops programed into your trip is a wonderful advantage,
it is not real quick to recalculate but it makes up for that in other features, the option of seeing your trip in different ways is cool, you can see arrival time or time remaining. I do miss the voice command of my 4250, but I can play mp3's through the 4370. John Bisnette Kansas.
refurbished Magellan 4370 GPS issues November 24, 2009 R. Bohuslav (Texas, USA) I received my refurbished Magellan 4370 GPS from Amazon with much excitement. Plugged it in to charge overnite only to find out in the morning that the internal battery will not keep a charge. Called Magellan and sent the unit to them for warranty service. Two weeks later I received the unit (different S/N, so I received a different refurbished unit), charged it overnite, and guess what? This unit will not hold the charge either. So much for Magellan's Quality control in their Repair Center.
I called them back and am sending the second GPS back to them for repair on their dime this time.
Beautiful, but not without personality... November 24, 2009 C. Philbrook (Cape Cod, MA) This is probably one of the best looking GPS on the market, an for the price of the refurbished model I wouldn't recommend anyone buy anything else; on that note however the device does have its querks. Everytime it turns on you have to accept it's warning screen before it shows you the GPS map. This can be pretty annoying since you'll have to get in the routine of turning on your car and tapping "ok" on the GPS. If you don't, the screen never goes away (which for me is not only annoying but distracting). It's next querk is it tends to anticipate your route. If you are on the highway and getting off at an exit, it may take a second or so to realize that you got off the highway and will have to adjust where you are on the map. This isn't a problem when driving somewhere with the device routing the way, it's just noticable when it's on stand-by following you around town. The system doesn't always pick up the Bluetooth automatically either on your cell phone. You'll probably have to click on the phone icon and select the phone's profile to connect (though it does connect automatically occassionally). That's all my complaints. Pretty minor things. It's a gorgous device, both externally, and the maps (much nicer than Garmin's maps) and it's quite a bargin with all it's features. Oh, that reminds me, I've had some trouble playing music and videos on it. They successfully transfer to the SD card, yet the device doesn't indicate they are there. Photos work fine though. And the FM transmitter also works well.
It is a great device. I don't want to come across as negative, I would rather you know now about what few problems there are as opposed to after you drop the $$$.
Works as advertised, except for WAAS November 24, 2009 JoshIII (Greenville, SC) Works as advertised except for WAAS compatibility.
The WAAS satellite is listed in the unit's sat. table, but signal strength from it is always 0. I know that is not correct because my Delorme GPS unit gets a good signal from the same WAAS satellite. WAAS compatibility gives you positional accuracy less than about 20 feet, but for some reason even though WAAS capability is offered, it is disabled on this unit.
Having said that, the positional accuracy is still very good, within 100 feet or less after the unit acquires 3 or more satellites.
I like: the high-res / wide screen, FM transmitter that allows you to hear directions and mp3 thru your car's stereo speaker system, traffic alert system ($39 per year extra), clear voice directions with good pronunciation, fast gps acquistion, processing speed and stability.
Don't like: the menu system could be better for creating and saving routes. You are always competing with the processor when you try to establish your own routes, even when you know the route you want the unit to take. It can be accomplished using "via" points, but you have to use several "via" points to get the exact route you want.
Unit was refurbished, but was in excellent condition. All the features on it worked, but will never use the Bluetooth system, so have it disabled.
Note: UPS Stores sell a 3 inch wide clear shipping tape ($8) that works beautiful for protecting the 4370 screen.
