Amazon.com Review All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. The sharpener measures 8-1/4 by 5-3/4 by 4 inches, and is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

Made my Knives Better than New! November 27, 2009 D. Brady (Illinois) We purchased a set of Chicago Cutlery on sale a couple years back. The knives were fine, but only for a short time, and became dull (and beyond annoying to use). I was ready to throw them out! My mother in law purchased this knife sharpener and was saying how well it worked. I borrowed hers to see if there was any hope to salvage my set. It worked so well, I could not even believe that they were the same knives!! I came to Amazon and bought the sharpener that very same day (and I have to say, I spent $10 less than she did in the store for the same item, and I got free shipping!). At Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, I noticed that my sister had the same knife set that I do, and she was complaining that they are dull and do not sharpen well. She is buying this sharpener as well with my suggestion! You will love it!!
Great little sharpener! November 12, 2009 Vince Garcia (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After running the knives the first time, I wasn't totally satisfied. However, when I ran the knives thru the machine a bit slower, it gave me superb results. I had a big block of mozzarella cheese and it was so easy to cut the slices!
Presto Outstanding October 30, 2009 Sandy (Lake Placid, Florida) This was the best knife sharpener I have ever owned, which has been several years, I have been taking them to a Knife Sharpening Business. Everyone who has used my knives says how sharp they are and loves them. They are even sharper than where I was taking them. So pleased with Presto and takes no time to sharpen. What a price value too.
Not bad. Could be better. October 28, 2009 R. Dalasio (Sanatoga, PA) For the money, this isn't a bad knife sharpener. However, I have a nice set of Wusthof Trident knives, and this unit seemed to be a little two harsh on some of the blades. On one knife in particular, it left circular patterns running down the blade. It was not pushed down on through the sharpening stones. Oh well, aside from the cosmetic looks, the blades did come out sharp.
Very easy to use October 25, 2009 J. Kehm I bought the sharpener to use on my kitchen knifes. I have used it 3 times now (doing 8 to 10 knifes at a time). I don't notice the excessive wear that others have complained about at all. The knifes come out sharp with little effort on my part. When using the sharpener you don't want to "bare down" on the grinding wheels. Just let the knife rest on the wheel using only the weight of the knife to determine "down pressure". If you are using too much pressure you will slow the grinding wheels or even stop them.
Otherwise it works like advertised.
