Product Description Ginsu 04814 International Traditions 14-Piece Bakelite Knife Block Set stocks a kitchen with most cutlery needs, and packs all knives in a contemporary hardwood storage block. The set includes: an 8-inch chef's knife, an 8-inch slicer, an 8-inch bread knife, a 5-inch boning knife, a 4-1/2-inch utility knife, a 3-1/2-inch paring knife, and six 4-1/2-inch steak knives, plus a pair of shears.
Amazon.com Review Many associate Ginsu knives with the product's kitschy infomercial from the `70s that begins with a karate kick to a watermelon and proceeds with a demo of these knives cutting through just about anything in the house. Like the original product, Ginsu's International Traditions is designed for the home cook who is not attuned to the maintenance required of a more high-end knife. However, this line is an improvement on the original, offering the weight, balance, and style of a commercial-quality knife, while meeting current design trends and performance expectations. This 14-piece set stocks a kitchen with most cutlery needs, and packs all knives in a contemporary black hardwood storage block. Ginsu blades are constructed from stainless steel and feature a two-dimensional serrated edge that is symmetrically cut on either side for more accurate slicing and for either right- or left-handed use. Edges are still as low-maintenance as ever and never require sharpening. The blades have full tangs that extend through lightweight bakelite handles and are triple-riveted for strength. Ginsu covers these International Traditions knives under a limited, lifetime warranty and recommends manual cleaning with hot, soapy water to keep them in top shape. --Cristina Vaamonde What's in the Box 3-1/2-inch paring knife, 4-1/2-inch utility knife, 5-inch boning knife, 8-inch bread knife, 8-inch slicer, 8-inch chef's knife, six 4-1/2-inch steak knives, shears, hardwood block

Ginsu Knifes November 13, 2009 Harriett Clarke (Pembroke MA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had owned a Ginsu knife and started looking for others..after visiting Amazon.com if found the GINSU INTERNATIONAL TRADITIONS 14 PIECE BAKELITE KNIFE BLOCK SET..I immediately purchased one for myself and another one for a birthday gift ... the gift was perfect for the family and they have since removed all of the other knives(saved them for the grill cook and the outside). what a deal..the price was an unexpected pleasure and we would recommend this item.
excellent product, gotta love cheap knives that do the job! November 9, 2009 Linda H. Phipps (st. louis, MO) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wanted knives that I could just throw in the dishwasher and not worry about staying sharp. I love my expensive knives too, but these have nice weight to them and I can't complain about the quality. I use them everyday.
Good Deal October 27, 2009 consummate shopper (LA, CA) Purchased these for my college age son; setting up a second household is not inexpensive and this set offers a bit of everything plus a knife block. For safety a full tang is important, it provides strength and longevity, nothing worse than having a tang pull loose from the handle when you cutting. Time and experience have shown that Ginsu blades do last a long time and sharpening is not required. I anticipate this set shall last well through his twenties. Price is more than completive and with super saver shipping you can`t find a better deal...
Pay for What you Get October 26, 2009 Amazon Buyer Pros: Price. Sharp blades.
Cons: Lightweight (feel cheap). Poorly constructed handles - 2 knives arrived with cracked handles and a third cracked after the first use.
Yes, Amazon has a great return policy, but for a $25 purchase I don't want to deal with the hassle. With a brand name like Ginsu I expect to receive a quality product the first time.
Ginsu also has a warranty on the knives, but at $3/knife for the return service it hardly seems worth it.
Knife Set October 22, 2009 David E. Quigley (Richmond VA) This is a great purchase for us. We had a set before for more than 20 years. These knives are as just like the original ginsu knives that we still use. I would recommend them.
