Attractive package and good value November 27, 2009 ALBERT DAVID NALVEN (HILTON HEAD ISALAND, SC) Since acquiring this cooker we have made great BBQ and boiled peanuts. Each a Southern delicacy and we defy anyone to tell us the difference from the old-timey method. Oh yes, the apricot chicken was OTW and no work at all.
Set and Forget November 27, 2009 Stephen R. Devore (Allegan Michigan) This crock pot actually does what its suposed to do. The temp probe works fabulous. i have told several friends to purchase one also and they feel the same way. Every type of meat roast i have tried [ 12 to date ] have turned out , not over cooked or undercooked. Simple to follow instructions. Just wish it had more recipes.
Overall: excellent slow cooker November 22, 2009 Ryan Pedigo (Los Angeles, CA) The Hamilton Beach 33967 Set 'n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker is fantastic; I wanted a slow cooker that would automatically stop cooking when I wanted it to, so I didn't have to plan on being home when the cook time finished. The programmable time feature is very helpful, and it turns on warm automatically when the cooking is finished so that I have my warm meal when I get home automatically.
Pros:
- Programmable, can set low or high temperatures for a set period of time, or even use a built-in thermometer probe
- Has latches that allow you to secure the lid to the slow cooker unit, so you can transport the entire cooker with food for a potluck or other event
- Large 6-quart capacity is fantastic for making large meals at once
Cons:
- Slow cookers should be filled halfway at least, so this cooker is not necessarily suitable for making smaller meals
- Cord is very short, so must be placed within a foot or so of an outlet
Be Aware the cord is very short November 21, 2009 R. Newbower (Acton, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just got this item after reading all the positive reviews. None of the reviews that I read alerted me to the miserably short cord. It would work fine for an outlet behind it on a counter. But if you have to reach further, forget it. It won't reach an outlet on the front of our kitchen island, even with the pot right up against the counter's front edge. So you need to resort to an ugly extension cord.
The Kitchenaid has a nice long 4 foot cord, with storage underneath, but it has many negative reviews about cracking pots.
One other negative: Many reviews highlight the positives of the locking lid, but few note how clumsy the clips are when you don't want to use them, and just wish they would get out of the way. As one review noted, a modest design change in the handles would have allowed the clips to drop safely out of the way of hands and pot-holders. Odd that Hamilton Beach would let minor design flaws cheapen a good product, especially since the competition costs far more!!
Possibly a defective model but.... November 20, 2009 A. J. Kephart (Huntsville, AL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think that my model might be defective and I am returning it but thought I would leave a review anyway. I used this product twice and used the programmable function. Both times I tried to cook on low for 8-10 hours. It would switch itself back to manual mode High. I tried to use the manual mode on low and it would switch itself to high. I read the other review prior to buying this on and a few of the others had the same complaint that it would switch itself to high or warm. I will be ordering another brand. In general though it did a great job cooking the 2 dishes that I prepared, but on high....thankfully I was home both days I used to, otherwise I would have had seriously overcooked food.
