I'm a violinist myself, and as such the name Paganini conjures up images of these impossibly difficult concert pieces that make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end. And yet, his works for guitar are equally, if perhaps in a different way, enjoyable.
The ghiribizzi in particular are very rewarding. In many respects there isn't anything too complicated about the compositions. They are just a lot of fun. They make for a nice afternoon's listening.
I've heard some of the ghiribizzi performed previously, but never the whole lot together. Mr. Sebastiani gives a very good reading. He is prone to play with a little more rubato and freedom with the tempi than some, but the present recording, nevertheless, does not fail to delight.
I will say this, however: if Mr. Marco Tamayo ever chooses to make a complete recording of the ghiribizzi, I'll be the first to pick it up. (As a side note, I would greatly recommend the recording of Paganini guitar music that he recorded on Naxos).
