| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com essential recording Yo-Yo Ma might seem like an unlikely protagonist for the tango, but this intrepid musical explorer has taken his task seriously, collaborating with experienced tango musicians. Ma even participates in a posthumous collaboration with one 1987 Piazzolla recording. Furthermore, while he's obviously the headliner here, he doesn't dominate the arrangements nearly as much as he does the billing and photography of the disc. While the result isn't your essential Piazzolla album (that would have to include more of the composer's own playing), it's an atmospheric and convincing collection, perhaps a good introduction for those who don't know the music. --Leslie Gerber

Sexy and driving October 30, 2009 Travis M. Stockwell (Salt Lake City, Utah) This music is addictive. The Libertango is super sexy with that syncopation and the beautiful dynamics coming from the cello. I love this CD.
Amazing Tango in Yo-Yo Ma style October 17, 2009 Juan Ortuno (Hialeah, FL) I originally purchased this CD because I like Yo-Yo Ma's music, and wanted to expand my collection. Not knowing much about tango, neither being a fan of it, I still decided to purchase the CD, merely because of Ma's Cello work.
The minute I inserted the disc in my computer's CD-ROM, I was HOOKED! It's unbelievably good, even for those who have no exposure to or knowledge of tango music.
After a few listens, one becomes familiar with the rhythm of the songs and wishes to stand up and dance. Ma's expressive playing style, along with the tango music and variety of instruments and style, capture the listener, and can do either of these: help you concentrate, relax, work and study OR it will make you want to get up and start dancing tango, even if you never have before. There are songs for love, romance, relaxing and spending time with some friends while having a bottle of wine or to set the atmosphere for a calm setting during dinner and/or after.
Here is my opinion in a nutshell: If you listen to Yo-Yo Ma, do yourself a favor and BUY this CD! You will NOT be disappointed.
I am 28 years old, and have never before listen to tango. I thought that was for grandma and grandpa; as I don't know anyone young enough who listens to tango. This music, this CD has changed the way I think about tango, and has broadened my musical horizons.
Beautiful November 2, 2008 Nina Deschane This is the best I have run into for practicing as well as just listening, this really is the "Soul of the Tango"! simply amazing!
Tango May 26, 2008 S. Merritt (California) I was looking for a bit more cello in this cd. That aside, this was a great choice.
A Must... February 6, 2008 C. Monge Soto (Everywhere) If you love Astor Piazzolla's music, this is one of the best disc ever... Yo-Yo MA's Cello get a new level with this masterpieces, Mumuki is my personal favorite... Also recommended Astor Piazzolla In Portrait (DVD).
