5 out of 5 stars This CD is well worth your time   October 11, 2009
MusicRules (USA)
In today's stressful world, we all need a little peace. This music is my escape from harsh or stressful events. I play it on the piano, I listen to it a lot and I have personally found Debussy to be my all time favorite composer.

Debussy writes music in an enchanting style. Technically, he uses a different set of scales (augmented, pentatonic) than conventional classical music composers. The pentatonic scale is frequently also used in jazz.

Regardless of the techniques used in this, just buy the CD and listen to it. It's well worth your money.

With so much turmoil and upheaval in the world today this CD will carry you off gently to a special place of peace and calm. As a lifelong Debussy devotee I can't recommend this collection highly enough. Play this album before bedtime and you will float off to sleep, your mind at rest and the worries of your day forgotten.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely for kids and adults alike   July 10, 2009

I am a teacher and a mom. I found Debussy through a soundtrack and while I don't know any of the other songs on the soundtrack, it gave me Debussy as a lasting memory, now almost 20 years later.

When I put this music on, my 4 year old keeps painting, my mind wanders as I pick up around the house or cook. I love it. Instantly it seems like the prevailing mood is, it is benevolently overtaken by this music. I have listened to it over and over since I got it and haven't tired of it a bit.

La plus que Lente is the tune that I find myself humming all the rest of the time the music isn't playing. What a rare gem for the music collection. The interpretations are as fine as I can imagine, and Debussy is so different from other classical music in its marches and grand pieces. He is rather like a small musical stream in a forest that is green and the type of place where one might find Puck from a Midsummer's Night Dream.

That's the only way I can describe his music...a bit of discovery, a bit of hide and seek a bit of wandering. My daughter loves it, my babe loves it, I love it. This disk is great music for the day.

I am not an expert on classical music. Having said this, I can tell anyone who loves to listen to simply beautiful music, you cannot go wrong with this CD. It is heavenly. It is certainly aptly titled. One can easily day dream, work, read, dine, or make love whilst listening to this music.

5 out of 5 stars Tunes for dreamers   September 29, 2008

Claude Debussy had been one of my favorite composers even before I knew how to write and behave like a big kid. Growing up my mother would play his tunes on the piano and flute and later I got to follow her footsteps and enjoy his dream like compositions. The French composer has been called the Impressionist and no surprised here, along with another favorite of mine, Ravel, dominated the turn into the twentieth century with his ethereal and magnificent creations. His unusual, radical harmonies have influenced artists that shape the world of music to this day.

This album has all of my favorite pieces, the melancholy Syrinx, bright and almost as if from a magical movie - Maiden with Flaxen hair, silky and soothing Reverie, Clair de Lune -something that sounds like star sprinkled night sky , Deux Arabesques - which I can play but not as well as my mom does - fantastic piano piece with waves of sound and floating chords. Other than Chopin no one else compares to Debussy when it comes to elegance and piano that touches me. This is perfect in the morning, afternoon or night, anytime I need soft, charming but never boring background music. Sometimes it's easy to forget that I'm listening to classical music, it simply sounds the way music should, without labels, taking my mind far away into a happier state. Those who like piano or harp compositions will enjoy this disc; it's really deliciously dreamy and cozy, very yum yum.
