| Customer Reviews: The next great classical guitarist; don't miss this July 1, 2000 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am not a classical guitarist but have been an afficionado for many years. Like others, I loved Segovia,am a fan of Williams and Barrueco and more recently Russell. This album, made when the artist was 16-she is now about 20-took my breath away when I heard it. It is recorded with Williams' guitar which he gave to her after a he heard her in a master class in Beijing. She already has a world class technique, but more than that, great expression and lyricism in the Segovian style. Her tremolos and harmonics are the best I have ever heard. Would love to hear her do Barrios' "Sueno in la Floresta" and Tarraga's "Recuerdos." She has the frighteningly perfect technique of Williams but with the soft full tones and lyrical phrasing of Segovia. Wonderful recording. Why haven't we heard more from her? She is already a great, great guitarist. If you like classical guitar, don't miss this.
16 Year Old Chinese Virtuoso - Incredible recording April 17, 2000 Kevin Callahan (Seattle) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
At the age of 16, Yameng's stunning technique and musical genius belies her age. She is the Sarah Chang of the guitar. For her debut album, she chose GHA, the reknowned guitar label based in Belgium. Not fond at all for the guitar tremolo, I was particularly impressed, however, with her version of El Delirio by Antonio Cano. Her playing of Paganini's Caprice is full of personality. Clearly, Yameng feels at home with music of the nineteenth century, as her performance is imbued with the sensibilities of that time period. Buy this record. You will not be disappointed.
