Even though it includes some of the same songs, this isn't the Time-Life Christmas collection advertised annually on TV. It's actually a budget version of that anthology, and not a bad deal at all. Some may argue it's missing the two Elvis Presley tracks found on the three-CD TV version. Others will contend that any self-respecting Christmas music aficionado probably already owns (or should own) Elvis's wonderful '57 Christmas Album. What's attractive about this one is it gathers a lot of classic singular performances in one place--a tad too much Bing Crosby, perhaps, but also the original hit versions of "Jingle Bell Rock," Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby," Burl Ives's "Holly Jolly Christmas," and the Drifters' "White Christmas" (the blueprint for Elvis's version). This is a terrific cross section of seasonal sounds. --Bill Holdship

1 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!   November 15, 2009

Review for ASIN: B00005NOZH

Everyone is looking for that large set with 21 songs on Disc 1 and 22 songs on Disc 2 - I wish I could post the external [...] address, but of course you can't do that. I looked on the Time Life site for this set and when I found it listed, there were a lot more songs on their listing.

Go to Time Life and search for "Time Life Treasury of Christmas", look closely at the song listing. If you look half way down the songs on Disc 1 you'll see where these 12 songs are listed. The missing songs, the first half of Disc 1 is being sold here under ASIN:B00006D2T8;Time-Life Music: Treasury of Christmas - Holiday Memories. So confusing!! What is the deal here??

Noe there is a Vol 2, that is shown here on Amazon under ASIN:B000LI8H24;The Time-Life Treasury of Christmas Vol.2, they don't give you a list of the songs in that listing, but again if you go to Time Life you'll find it there. Vol 2 should have 24 songs on Disc 1 and 23 on Disc 2. But the listing here, since they don't give you a list of the songs, you really don't know what you're getting do you? Especially considering how they've messed up on Vol 1 of this set.

Amazon really needs to look into what is being sold, especially when they offer it as a Prime item. People will think that Amazon itself is selling it when in fact I am sure it's being sold for someone else by Amazon.

Buyer Beware! An for heavens sake don't try to buy the MP3 download - it takes you to something completely different from this CD set. At least it did that to me.

4 out of 5 stars Holiday music   October 13, 2009

Really great CD if you like your Christmas music sung by the originals. Don't buy it if you like newer stuff...this CD has the oldies like Bing Crosby and Elvis...and no remixes!

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Christmas Classics   December 10, 2008

This CD has wonderful Christmas classics that will please all audiences. I would have given it 5 stars for the quality and variety of songs, but the CD is only 30 minutes in length. Granted, there are two in the case, but why didn't they just put all these great songs on one CD?

5 out of 5 stars Bringing back wonderful memories   November 23, 2008
Jillonne Kaufman (Gulfport, FL USA)
I have owned this previously through Time Life (some of you know what can happen when you are moving) and so I wanted to purchase it again and did when I found it here on Amazon. These are priceless original Christmas songs by the original artists and the sounds are simply superb! This is a must have for those who want to remember old traditions and for those who want to make new ones.

5 out of 5 stars An outstanding Compilation of Seasonal Songs!   November 10, 2008
Archie Mercer (Yorba Linda, CA)
I have to say I'm kind of addicted to Christmas music, usually beginning to play it each year in August. I always make it a point to try and add 2-3 CDs per year to my collection. This happens to be one of my favorite seasonal collections. It has a great range of songs and artists, from Bing Crosby to the Beach Boys to the Chipmunks. Although this is a two CD version of a larger compilation from Time-Life that was advertised for years on TV it still provides plenty of seasonal music to enjoy.

Some of my favorites included here is Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby" (a much better version that Madonna's more recent attempt), Burl Ives "A Holly Jolly Christmas", The Drifters version of "White Christmas", and one of my all time favorites, Bing Crosby & David Bowie's "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" which was recorded for Crosby's final Christmas special just a few weeks before his death.

This is a outstanding collection, one I would recommend highly to anyone looking for a variety of Christmas music all in one set of CDs. Happy listening and Merry Christmas!
