Album Description
2009 sophomore release from the Minnesota-based Electro-Rock outfit AKA singer/songwriter Adam Young. While his music continues to win followers all over the world, Adam does indeed hide behind his music, not going by his real name (See: Badly Drawn Boy and Dashboard Confessional); but going by the moniker Owl City. Loaded with amazing loops, catchy pickups, and lyrics that soothe the mind and touch the heart, Adam Young has once again created a lush listening experience. Owl City's trademark desire to escape in dreams, oceans and sky abound on songs such as 'Cave In' and 'Umbrella Beach.' With glorious vocal harmonies and touching odes to love lost, Adam has dug more deeply on Ocean Eyes, lyrically and musically, than ever.

5 out of 5 stars Feel Good Music   November 23, 2009
Mickey Olson (Novato, CA)
I heard Fireflies on [...] (alternative rock station in the SF Bay Area) back in August 2009 and bought it on itunes along with Vanilla Twilight. After repeating both songs a bunch while driving down to San Deigo we decided to stop by Target and pick up the CD. I was not dissapointed, the music is catchy and fun and not too serious. The songs make me feel good and a few make me laugh. I admit they are kind of cheesy and sappy but they still sound good. It is now November 2009 and I still pop it in the CD player every once and a while.

I read the critiscm about Owl City being a rip off of other artists. I have only heard The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie a little bit and I admit they sound a little alike but I always though PS and DCFC were a little more rock sounding. Owl City is more dance music Pop IMHO. Regardless if they sound alike I still enjoy Owl City.

5 out of 5 stars This album is great...   November 21, 2009

But... Re: Postal Service! If you like this album and have never heard of the Postal Service, you need to look them up. This is very reminiscent of Postal Service's style... It's almost eerie how much the music is alike. Postal Service is the brain child of Ben Gibbard, the lead in Death Cab for Cutie. Check it out.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible Debut!!!!   November 21, 2009

This album has something everyone will enjoy. The music is well written, joyful, and Adam Young's vocals are amazing. The music literally puts a smile on your face and makes you feel happy. Adam wrote all of the songs except two, which he co-wrote with Matt Thiessen. The lyrics mean something and make you think. The song "Dental Care" may be about dental care, but the lyrics are really clever. An example would be: "Golf and alcohol don't mix and that's why I don't drink and drive." Some of my favorites would be "Cave In", "Saltwater Room", and "Vanilla Twilight". It's appropriate for all ages and is one of the best albums I've ever bought. If you're looking for a talented new artist, then this is the band for you!

5 out of 5 stars Owl City Puts A Smile On Your Face!!!!!!   November 21, 2009

23-year-old Adam Young is the only member of Owl City, but that's all you really need. In his most recent release, Ocean Eyes, he has 12 tracks consisting of catchy melodies in the electronica genre. I didn't even know if I would like this album, but I saw it had so many five-star reviews; it had to be good. I went out on a limb and bought the CD and every track was amazing. You can listen to this CD from start to finish, without skipping a song. The lyrics are so creative and make complete sense. Adam Young wrote all the songs by himself except for two that he co-wrote. The music is very happy and unique. It is great for all ages and he also has really nice voice. This genre may not seem to be one you would usually choose (I wouldn't have either), but I strongly recommend it for anyone. Some of my favorite tracks are: "Fireflies", "On The Wing", and "Tidal Wave". All of the songs are well done and it was really hard to pick favorites. Owl City puts a smile on your face, so be sure to check out his other albums "Maybe I'm Dreaming" and "Of June" too!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!   November 20, 2009

I have a new favorite band. =D

This feels like the music of my soul - so uplifting and cheery! I have yet to find a song on this album that I don't like. There is so much musical variety within each song: acoustic, disco, even some symphony, all wrapped up in each individual song.

Did I mention that the lyrics are AMAZING??? Yeah, well, they're amazing. So simple, yet so profound; makes me feel like a little kid again.
