Product Description Following seven years of near solid touring, Muse escalated from being the biggest band in Teignmouth in 1997 to one of the biggest bands in Europe by 2004. With each successive album, they pushed the musical envelope with a fusion of progressive rock, electronica, and Radiohead-influenced experimentation, creating an emotive, passionate sound. Muse's reputation as one of the best live rock bands in the world is well deserved with their exhilirating live performances drewing critical acclaim, industry buzz, and a loyal and rabid fan base.
Album Description 2009 album from the acclaimed British Alt-Rock trio. In terms of sound and sonic vision, The Resistance is their most ambitious long-player yet, which is clearly saying something. They have blown up the robo-Funk/monster riff/stadium Space Rock sound of Black Holes and widened their viewfinder even further to take in an even greater horizon of sound. For Muse, reverting to a successful template would be simply meaningless.

Hooked on Muse November 26, 2009 J. L. Carroll I love this album. I normally gravitate towards heavier music but this is an amazing album. I can hear so many different bands when listening to The Resistance. I hear Queen, U2, Led Zepplin, and believe it or not System of a Down. The slower Exogenesis tracks are not something I really like but five stars for the rest of the tracks. I also like the meaning behind the lyrics in many of the songs. Almost an intellectual feel to them. Don't hesitate and download now!
A new sound for Muse leaves one wondering what happened to the songs November 25, 2009 James Justice (US) I eagerly purchased this album as I am a longtime fan of Muse.
This release has them utilizing a different style of production, which is actually a good sound for them (in my opinion).
So the style is good for them -- but unfortunately there is not much substance here.
Matt et al. end up taking you on a journey through partially completed ideas of songs lacking in the passion and emotional content of previous releases.
Overall I have to give this 3 stars. I honestly was disappointed. Not in the sound of the music, but in the lack of inspiration in the songs.
They never center on an idea and take something to completion... instead we hear lots of production and (in my opinion) a poor attempt at releasing a 'Symphony' which in reality is not at all classical -- and is poorly executed in terms of actually playing their instruments.
Muse is a grandiose band (or was). This is a great thing.
However this release fails to excite. No passion was recorded here.
Instead, the lack of new ideas turns what _should_ be the APOCALYPSE! into a canned, poorly planned (but still deliberately planned) album.
Save your cash and listen to 'Uprising' on the radio or YouTube.
That single is the best part of the album and its only redemption.
Show me a current band with skills like these November 24, 2009 Joe D. Lincoln (Tulsa, OK USA) This is not my favorite Muse album; but it rises far above the pap that permeates the airways at present. I'll keep this brief. There are blatant references to things from the past. That's how music works, for the most part; Excepting the Avante Garde. This is a solid work, in my opinion. No one can deny J.Bellamy's incredible voice and talent on guitar, keys, and songwriting in general.
Great CD, Great Price, & Fast Shipping! November 22, 2009 Todd Q. Williams (Meridian, ID USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an instant classic! Especially considering the low cost and really fast shipping, this was a no brainer!
Even better Muse! November 20, 2009 K. Haynes (Jackson, MS, USA) My teenage daughter has been listening to Muse for about a year or so with her college buddies, while I was listening to other stuff: Gomez, Radiohead, Porcurpine Tree, etc. When Resistance came out, my daughter kept telling me I should listen to it, but I just didn't get around to it (was it resistance?!). So about 2 weeks ago I finally asked for her Resistance CD. After 1 listen I heard enough to immediately recognize that I was going to have to listen to it several times to get through the layers, and to let each song reveal itself to me.
So after 10 or so listens, I am really impressed with every song on this album. Right now, I am not tired of any of them, even though I thought I wouldn't like some of the more Maroon5 sounding stuff ("I Belong To You", "Uprising") after the first listen. But listening straight thru this CD, I am not reaching for the Next button on my Zune. I appreciate and enjoy the song order straight thru.
Matthew Bellamy is obviously equally comfortable and expressive on guitar and keyboards. There are the obvious nods to Queen, Radiohead, Travis (on steroids), and positive Porcupine Tree (like the crunchy guitar outtake on "Unnatural Selection"). "Exogenesis Symphony" is breathtaking in its beauty and quiet power. When it's over, it leaves such a sweet taste in your mouth, you are ready to hit play and go thru them all again!
I have been going back now to Absolution and Black Holes to hear older stuff. The engineering on Absolution is a bit more muffled that Black Holes and The Resistance. The Resistance is crisp and punchy -- really clear and engaging.
Just excellent stuff!
