Product Description Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 PC
Amazon.com Product Description
Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series. Classic tactical FPS action. View larger. | Customizable multiplayer perk system. View larger. | Diverse in-game environments. View larger. | New weapons and gadgets. View larger. | Story The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs. Gameplay The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them. Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches. Special Ops Co-op Mode Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality. Key Game Features - Challenging Multiplayer Modes – Modern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
- Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
- An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
- The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
- Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
- Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
- New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
- New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
- New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

Game is truly epic, PC gamers need to stop cying and man up. November 27, 2009 Michael Ivie (VA and AZ) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game on any console is awesome. I have it for PC and 360 and both seem to have its pros and cons. I've been a gamer since I was 4 back in 1986 and have been playing games and pc games ever since. I know what I like and you should too. Dont let some 13 year old punk-kid review ruin a game because he didn't get what he wanted. Get if you have the system and love the mouse over the 360 or PS3 controller. Like I said, been playing for awhile and I've adapted my skills to m/k and controllers. I'm in the military and I've even adpapted my skills for FPS and games alike on a laptop touchpad while deployed.
The whole max cap on players in matches and dedi servers is cool and all, but it didn't ruin this game at all. Get it already!!!!!
Disappointig November 26, 2009 IrishS01 (St. Paul,MN) I looked forward to this game all summer. I read the posts that said don't buy it because of the MP only through Steam. After playing it for two weeks I would have to agree. The MP is fraught with a lack of mod capacity and quickly becomes knives and grenades. Too bad-for me the long term committment to this game is not what it was with COD MW a couple of years ago. I'm sure I will be playing it only until the next really good game comes out. Not worth the $60.

I'm not about to pay 60$ for a pc game no matter how well it may sell.
Five Stars November 25, 2009 Michael Leib (Tampa, FL) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'm just going to keep this as short as possible...
This game does not deserve all of these 1 star ratings that it is getting. This game is amazing, the graphics are absolutely stunning on my 8800 gt overclocked graphics card. The online multiplayer is better than cod4 hands down. I have had almost every fps shooter that has ever come out and the top three that I play are modern warfare 2, left for dead 2, and counter strike source. I think it's definetly a good idea that they put the game on steam, it automatically patches the game for you and updates it so you don't have to go online looking for one.
Another great thing about this game is that the killstreaks are different in this game ranging from calling in a UAV (3 killstreak) to calling in a tactical nuke (25 killstreak). There are also approximately 15 other killstreak rewards which make the game way better than cod4 in which you could only call in a UAV, airstrike, and helicopter. I think my favorite killstreak would have to be the chopper gunner (11 killstreak) where you are actually the gunner of a helicopter. Nothing feels more powerful than wiping out the entire team multiple times from the air above. Don't let the fact that there are no dedicated servers hold you back from buying this game. It has a fantastic single player and multiplayer, as well as co-op/single player specials ops. I fully believe this game is worth the $60 I paid at gamestop. Get the game, you won't regret it!

COD Still a Joke Compared to "Joint Operations" November 25, 2009 R. L. Hodges (Seattle, WA United States) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
WARNING: The following review is written by a total combat gaming snob who demands the best in online gameplay.
Hey, ripped-off Call Of Duty fans: Let's do a little comparison between "Joint Operations: Combined Arms" (specicially the "Combined Arms" version) and COD (any version), shall we?
What's the point of having a sniper rifle if the enemy is always so close to you that you can just throw a grenade (or a rock)? Such is the laughable world of COD and its sardine can maps. In Joint Ops, the maps have no borders - you can fly, ride, drive or run forever in any direction. You can hike up a mountain side and rain down some death with a sniper rifle from over 1,000 away like a real sniper actually can. That's 10 football fields end-to-end! But if COD is all you play, you have no clue what this is like. You probably think snipers shoot their targets from just across the street. In COD, that's all the CAN do.
How about the ability to have up to 200 players online in the same map in all out full-scale warfare? Oh, that's right - COD maxes out at 64. But then again, those sardine can maps only allow for that many. Get's a little crowded in there, doesn't it?
Tanks? APCs? Aircraft? Jeeps? Mounted guns (and even missiles) on all vehicles and aircraft? Dirt bikes? Yup - Joint Operations has them all, 100% pure user-controllable. COD? Nowhere to be found. Sorry, you're on foot, you brainless grunt. Snore.
And for all you vehicle haters and "knife and pistol only" screweballs - you can totalyl exclude any vehicles or weapons in Joint Ops if you want to. Total flexibility.
Weather: In Joint Ops, you can even control the weather and time of day. Want to fight at night in the rain with nightvision? No problem. Air quality and haze factor? Make it slightly hazy, totally foggy or crystal clear, and to any degree. It's all up to you.
Parachuting out of a helo? And while your buddies cover you by manning the two miniguns? Yup, JO's got that too. Joint Operations is all about combat realism. But this is nowhere to be found in COD.
Armored vehicles like tanks and APCS, all different types, too, and you get to choose, drive and fully man them - Joint Ops is where its at. Nowhere to be found in COD, other than immovable "eye candy" objects to hide behind while your enemies "prairie dog" you from the next mountainside over. Oh, wait, that would be Joint Ops. In COD, your enemies will be "prairie dogging" you from across the street because of the laughably claustrophobic maps.
Calling your own artillery strikes by operating, aiming and firing the artillery yourself - Joint Ops has it. Nowhere to be found in COD. Matter of fact, you can't even call in artillery until you make a certain rank. Sucks to be you.
Hand-carry guided missles like Stingers and Javelins to use against enemy aircract and armored vehicles? Only in Joint Ops. You have absolutely no idea how deeply satisfying these weapons are to use, I cannot stress this enough. This apsect of the game lone is indescribably thrilling. In COD, you only get a taste of this, and only in single-player mode. Imagine enjoying this in multi-player agaist all enemy vehicles. Stop drooling, you look like an idiot.
Sick of playing COD and only being able to experience cool things in single-player mode, only to discover that none of it exists in multi-player mode? Don't you feel ripped off? You should, especialyl since it's all the single-plyer stuff that Infinity Ward slaps on the package to sell it. Sick of playing "dumbed down" jousting matches of endless, boring "run and gun" because the developers have you locked into tiny little sardine can maps that don't allow for aircraft and vehicles? You should be. With games like Joint Operations and Battlefield 2 being out for years, there is no excuse for these pathetic limitations and missing elements of true combat and warfare.
Map size, huge issue: imagine jumping on a dirt bike and going off into the distance and going "Evel Knievel" by jumping over hills for a while? You can do that in Joint Ops. COD? Not even. In COD, you can't even walk in any direction for more than a minute before bumping into a very unrelaistic map limit barrier. Gee, that's realistic, isn't it? If Infinity Ward wanted to go for all out realism, they should make your voice echo like you're running around inside a gymnasium - because you are. Whatta joke. If you think this is how gaming is supposed to be in a multi-processor, SLI-graphics world, then you've been smoking breakfast.
Rank and Weapons: Every map starts out with everyone at the same ground level in rank. No "old guard" elitist jerks with superior abilities and weapons to spoil the game. Every weapon available in Joint Operations is available to you during gameplay. Change roles and weapons as you see fit and unleash absolute hell from the very beginning of every map. Oh, that's right, you play COD or BF2, and you can't do that because you have to make a certain rank before you're allowed to touch certain weapons, commands and features. You actually paid for that game? Drank the CoolAid, didn't you?
Though there are not nearly as many servers to jump on compared to COD, the gameplay alone is worth it. 1,000 servers of COD is still COD - it just ain't Joint Operations.
Come play Joint Operations Combined Arms (make sure it is the "Combined Arms" verrsion), the game that STILL makes all versions of COD and Battlefield look like a joke. The graphics aren't as good, but still worthy of praise and a small price to pay for utterly amazing - and unparellelled - gameplay and features. You will not find another game that will allow you to do what you can do in this game. Not by a LONGSHOT. Speaking of longshots, Joint Operations allows artillery, tank, sniper and all other weapons fire at ranges 1,000 yards plus, often actually disappearing back into the haze of the atmosphere. You actually NEED scopes and binoculars in Joint Ops. Imagine that!
Nova Logic got this one right, and in a HUGE way. Nobody else has touched it since, including Nova Logic.
Come see what you've been missing. If you're going to be addicted to a PC game, this is the one.
