Excellent choice for home PCs November 27, 2009 H. Wang (San Jose, CA) I have been using NIS for 6 years. And I am quite used to NIS's installation procedures and user interface.
Installation of NIS2010 on my 3 desktops go smoothly and everything looks ok.
In general, I don't see big difference between NIS2009 and NIS2010. However NIS2010 has following additions:
(1) The new feature "Norton Safe" is nice when you are searching. It gives you flag so You learn if the results of your search are safe.
(2) The virus scan runs faster with NIS2010 because many files are safe and don't need to be included in the scan over and over again.
(3) Also, Norton is able to scan quite some compressed file types and picked up a few questionable applications that other virus scanners wouldn't handle until the file was decompressed.
Another handy feature (already in the NIS2009) is the ability to manage and auto-fill your passwords, credit card numbers, and other info. It saves you some time if you have a lot of passwords to manage.
In summary, I highly recommend NIS2010 for home PCs.
Norton Got it right this time... November 26, 2009 rkay48 (Columbia, MD United States) Others have provided excellent reviews and detailed information so I see no need to repeat. I will say that the 2010 version is excellent, and is similar to the well-designed 2009 version. Norton has succeeded in producing a comprehensive internet protection product that does not consume many resources and is relatively unobtrusive. Installed and ran without any problems for me (Vista 64). I have installed it on two computers (home network) with no problems (should install on 3 if needed). I used the Norton Removal tool to unload prior versions of this, which seems to work best. See [...]
Amazon's price is usually one of the best you will find, but it does change, so check back if needed.
I have been using Norton for several years and only had one problem: November 25, 2009 Robert Carmody (Reno) I have been using Norton for years and have only had a single problem:
Once, I installed security software that without my permission uninstalled my Norton Security.
I had to call Norton to get my product back from them. I actually dreaded that I would be on the phone for hours with unhelpful unsympathetic support.
I was wrong. They logged into my computer and fixed the problem ASAP and even gave me a free upgrade when it was all my fault !
That experience went a long way in making a loyal fan of Norton. The only time I needed the service it was there, it was good, and it was speedy.
So, if you want to base your purchase on a Norton product taking into consideration what support you will get when things don't go right, I will tell you that you most likely won't find another product that will offer better service.
Seems about on par with prior Norton versions November 25, 2009 Tell It Like It Is (good ole USA) Definitely slowed my system (Vista home premium) versus running without it. Seems to want to update each time the computer is turned on. As for detecting malware, it has warned me that several emails came from known malicious sites. I don't think this version of Norton is any better or worse than other recent versions. Unfortunately, internet security software is an absolutely necessary evil nowadays. I really don't find that one brand offers any objective, tangible benefits over the others. They all slow your system, and some interfere with other software programs running on your computer more than others.
a purchase for the upcoming year November 24, 2009 Thomas Brown (Charleston, IL) I have been a "Panda" antivirus user for about 5 years, and have loved there products. In the past year though, there had been conflicts with my Lojack for Laptops software. Frustrated, I decided to go shopping for a new antivirus product. After doing a little research, it seems that Norton Internet Security is back on top again. It was given one of the best ratings by Maximum PC magazine. If it is good enough for Maximum PC then it is good enough for me. As far as using the product I will have to wait until my current protection runs out in January to try Norton. I don't dislike Panda enough to terminate the product prematurely, and I want my new product to last as long as possible since it is only good for one year from the time of activation. Note: in the past I was upset that Norton automatically charged my credit card without asking me if I wanted to continue using a product I bought online. I will not buy there products online again for that reason. Hoping that buying the boxed product will alleviate this issue.
Regards: Prior Panda user.
