Product Description
Integrity—more than simple honesty, it's the key to success. A person with integrity has the ability to pull everything together, to make it all happen no matter how challenging the circumstances. Drawing on experiences from his work, Dr. Henry Cloud, a clinical psychologist, leadership coach, corporate consultant and nationally syndicated radio host, shows how our character can keep us from achieving all we want to (or could) be. In Integrity, Dr. Cloud explores the six qualities of character that define integrity, and how people with integrity: - Are able to connect with others and build trust
- Are oriented toward reality
- Finish well
- Embrace the negative
- Are oriented toward increase
- Have an understanding of the transcendent
Integrity is not something that you either have or don't, but instead is an exciting growth path that all of us can engage in and enjoy.

Greater Courage Needed for Today's Reality August 25, 2009 Larry Underwood (Scottsdale, AZ) Dr Henry Cloud's study of integrity---a character trait that seems to have fallen by the wayside in recent years---is a compelling perspective which illustrates the frailty of character a large segment of society seems to possess nowadays.
Dr Cloud, a renowned clinical psychologist & corporate consultant, succinctly pinpoints the six character traits of integrity: (1) Create trust, (2) Unafraid of reality, (3) Results oriented, (4) Solves "negative realities", (5) Causes growth, & (6) Finds meaning in life. These characteristics may seem like platitudes from a previous era, but they are right on the money; and many of these traits seemingly have disappeared from many sectors of our society. That's the harsh reality we're facing today.
In recent years, an erosion of integrity has been apparent, from Wall Street to Washington, DC, and throughout the hallowed halls of corporate America. The results have been an economic crisis not seen since The Great Depression, and a political arena filled with hype and very little help.
Clearly, these difficult times require an even greater amount of courage to get through. Let's hope it starts happening soon; reality isn't getting any softer, and itegrity is getting more difficult to find.
Integrity foundational for all relationships July 6, 2009 Philip Camden (Newcastle, Australia) Integrity: The Courage to Meet the Demands of Reality
This book so impacted my life that I bought 10 more copies and gave one to each of my leaders now taking our whole leadership team through it chapter by chapter.
I have also given away two copies to business friends and they say it is transformational.
Using this book extensively in my work June 4, 2009 Mary Crickmore I have found a lot of the principles in this book have helped me to address problems in my workplace, as a supervisor. It has also helped me in my family life. I found that I was "invalidating" what other people said by telling them that they shouldn't feel they way they do about their experiences. I am now promoting the study and application of this book in my organization and have ordered two more of Henry Cloud's books.
Good Title On An Overlooked Subject May 17, 2009 Michael Taylor (Indian Trail NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Integrity" by Henry Cloud is a good title that addresses the character issue of integrity. Cloud interprets the word as a person who is a whole, does not act in a way contrary to his or her makeup, and is not afraid to confront issues in his or her life.
In the book Cloud mentions numerous examples of people who failed in their careers because of some character flaw:
1. Unwillingness to confront problem employees.
2. Narcissism - attempts to feel so good about self that thorny issues are not confronted because doing so would create discomfort in one's life.
3. Selfishness - being "nice" to people but not also looking out for them and instead focusing on your own interests.
4. Other flaws.
Cloud mentions several clients (not by real name) and how he helped the client address a particular issue or event.
Cloud offers some solutions in dealing with and developing character by:
1. Building trust with others through: connection, looking out for other's interest, and being vulnerable to others.
2. Learning to finish well in life.
3. Not being afraid to confront and deal with difficult issues and potential character flaws that if left untreated, can ruin your life.
4. Desiring to grow and mature as you get older.
5. Getting involved in something larger than your own existence.
The book is a good read and I enjoyed the title. I recently finished reading a newer title by Cloud entitled "One-Life Solution" and think I liked that title better.
Still, a good read and recommended. Enjoy and be challenged!
