1 out of 5 stars Mixing Audio: (Kindle Edition). Hey Roey, where's the DVD audio?   November 23, 2009
Ken Linton (New York, Dublin, London)
Well, it sure looks like a great book. But without the audio from the DVD, the Kindle version is pretty much hopeless. So where is the audio for Kindle buyers? See below:

To quote another buyer of a different music production Kindle edition: "The book constantly refers to the DVD for examples, but if you buy the Kindle addition it is not provided. There is no link to download the Disc."

So my rating for the Kindle and the information on www.amazon.com for this and similar titles that include CD or DVD with the physical book is a resounding zero. You'd
think amazon could get their act together and (1) clearly indicate that the Kindle edition does NOT downloaded audio and (2) host a website to download the disk contents.

Very disappointed. Sure glad I didn't buy a Kindle as it's of no use at all.

5 out of 5 stars Best Book on Subject   November 10, 2009
Brad Payne
This book is amazing to say the least, I couldn`t and still can`t put it down. Anyone who wants to up their knowledge of mixing (the process, what it inquires, the lingo, the equipment, the software, plus some how to tips, and more) has to own this book. I've been recording music for going on 10 years now, and though I've had my successes, I've had much more failures, and A LOT of it is due to mixing and/or editing (i.e. the songs are good, and the recordings are good, but the songs failed when finished). I've got a library full of books that just breeze by most topics that are important, and after reading this book (also while taking an audio production class- in which this book, though not, should be part of the curricular reading), with Izhaki's straight forward, for the layman, style writing, I found that there is so much more ground that I should have been covering with my music that I simply was not attuned to. With simple understanding, and great diagrams, pictures, and charts, along with a DVD of samples, the only thing missing with this book is the hands on experience (though to assume you're reading this book, you have a means and a way of accomplishing that).
Are there typos, grammar errors, and some bad punctuation, yes. Is this a English book, no. So some bits and pieces here and there are not going to hurt anything. (Though yes they still shouldn't be there, but for the information presented in this book, them are some small potatoes.) Overall, these small things are insignificant and do not take away from any of the knowledge or teachings this book provides. For a book, and from what I've seen, the only book, of this caliber on the subject, I'll take a thousand typos and still be grateful. Besides, if you can't read through some errors, then good luck trying to mix some bad recordings.

5 out of 5 stars Never learned so much about mixing   November 9, 2009

very simple : unless you are very happy with your mixes, this book is a must have.
Even better than what I expected. This book is very complete and really makes mixes better.

This book talks really seriously and precisely about mixing. I've catched advice that I now use all the time. A few examples :
Compressing : I've been using compressors for 5 years and I've read a lot about compressors and to be honest, this is the first time I understand how a compressor works ... The "usual" explanation is wrong.
Now when I open a compressor window, I know why and how I'll use it
Reverbs : I didn't know that gating the reverb was the way to have that "big" sound without the "amateur" flush we always hear on home-studio mixes; this is the way to have very audible but short reverbs without distorsion.
Equalization : I have never used a high-pass filter that way ... now I really "aggressively" clear the bottom end on most guitars, vocals ans so on ... and my bass and kick just stick out the mix.

I am still working with this book. It is a book I'll never get rid of.
a master piece.

5 out of 5 stars Great mix of technical and artisic informations   October 30, 2009
Paul Mulvey
This book is one of the best I have seen because of where it pitches the technical aspects of mixing. It would be an ideal text book for a two-year college course on the subject. I read some reviews about the quality of English used. I found a very small number of obviously poor translations but this is not an issue when you consider the overall presentation of the material. The diagrams are first class and informative.

4 out of 5 stars Insightful   October 27, 2009

Good book. Assumes you know a little something about sound/mixing already. Very detailed. Doesn't develop a mixing style for you; you must do that for yourself. It does, however, provide you with the necessary information to do so.
