3 out of 5 stars So bad, it seems incomplete   November 25, 2009

I was excited to get the Dragon Age Origins game and decided to get the guide to help me through the game. The game has a large world and allot of quests so a guide is necessary. This guide seems like the author followed a template and half heartedly filled out the information necessary to complete the guide. The maps are not very helpful, and the guide is not organized very well. The lists included in the guide offer no good information. I found myself trying to figure out which section the necessary information was contained in, and was rummaging through the guide more than I liked. Do not get me wrong I did find some useful information, and I would not have figured it out without the guide. However, I have come to expect more from Prima. That fact that I needed the guide is why I gave this a 3 star instead of a 2 star.

Now that I have completed the story, I am going through the game to complete the rest of the origin stories and trying to complete the achievements. This is where the guide really falls short. There is not allot of information on dialogue choices and how to chance outcomes of the game. I wonder if the author even played the game more than once....

Overall: A poor showing by Prima, Amazon did a good job as far as price and shipping, but not a great guide.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money because this guide is terrible   November 23, 2009

This is not a very good guide for Dragon Ages. Its more of a written narrative of the storyline full of spoilers. Most of what is in it can be discovered easily without it and the majority of its information is rehashing whats already written in the players journal. The first third is nothing but an item lists and character backgrounds. The maps in the book are very small and hard to read. It is either too hard to find information or what is there is so vague its not helpful. Its only strong point is that it does assist you with how to get your team members to like you. Save you money and look elsewhere for quality help in playing this game.

4 out of 5 stars Great help in battling the dragon of complexity   November 19, 2009

Dragon Age Origins is a very complex game and there are a lot of paths you can take through the game world. This guide was an invaluable help to me in figuring out how to get through the game.
The game is very decision oriented. Where should you go next? What quests should you do and in what order? What dialogue choices should you make? What ethical choices will you decide on? All of these things are a factor in the game and this guide helps you make the decisions that will move you forward to conquering it all.

It walks you through the whole game so you can conquer it and it has maps and walk throughs of every area along with locations of secret items, chests, NPC's bosses and more. It also gives you strategies for conquering the bosses and tells you your options for dialogue choices.

This is a good guide that will help you get successfully through a very complex game.

Suffice to say, the book is not only unneccesary, it's flat out incorrect in most spots. Avoid it.

1 out of 5 stars Lazy and Weak   November 16, 2009

Absolutely pitiful excuse for a Prima guide. Lazy graphic design - every single page uses the exact same template / layout, often at the expense of the information. In fact, that's my biggest problem with this guide - information is extremely hard to find and parse. The second biggest problem is that the information provided (assuming you can find it) is extremely vague. For example, most of the information provided for side-quests are exactly what's in the quest log's description. No instructions how to complete them, no map locations, and worst of all - no information on the consequences of your actions. There are a lot "moral" choices in Dragon Age, and this guide gives you NO information on how your choices affect the game. You could make the arguement that this leaves the game more "fun", but there's very little point in buying a guide that gives you no information. VERY dissapointed, especially at a [...] price point.
