Product Description

A New York real estate tycoon plunges to his death on a Manhattan sidewalk. A trophy wife with a past survives a narrow escape from a brazen attack. Mobsters and moguls with no shortage of reasons to kill trot out their alibis. And then, in the suffocating grip of a record heat wave, comes another shocking murder and a sharp turn in a tense journey into the dirty little secrets of the wealthy. Secrets that prove to be fatal. Secrets that lay hidden in the dark until one NYPD detective shines a light.

Mystery sensation Richard Castle, blockbuster author of the wildly best-selling Derrick Storm novels, introduces his newest character, NYPD Homicide Detective Nikki Heat. Tough, sexy, professional, Nikki Heat carries a passion for justice as she leads one of New York City's top homicide squads. She's hit with an unexpected challenge when the commissioner assigns superstar magazine journalist Jameson Rook to ride along with her to research an article on New York's Finest. PulitzerPrize-winning Rook is as much a handful as he is handsome. His wise-cracking and meddling aren't her only problems. As she works to unravel the secrets of the murdered real estate tycoon, she must also confront the spark between them. The one called heat.

4 out of 5 stars Cute on multiple levels   November 27, 2009
Robert Forward (Chatsworth, CA USA)
Although this is a book about a fictional character drawn from another fictional character and is written by a fictional writer who is not only writing a book based on his fictional adventures but is obviously using the opportunity to live out a few of his fictional fantasies, *gasp for breath* - it all, believe it or not, works.

The book is a fun read on the surface, just as a detective story. A little cute, but that's because it is based on the show "Castle," which has fun characters -- all of whom appear in the novel under barely-assumed names. And since it is purportedly written by Rick Castle himself, who obviously has the hots for Detective Kate Beckett in the series, Castle allows his book alter-ego "Jameson Rook" to get snuggly with Detective Beckett's alter-ego "Nikki Heat" even though the show itself makes clear that she is not going to let that happen anytime soon, if at all. I keep imagining Beckett's furious reaction upon reading the book, which of course is all part of the fun. If you are just looking for a mystery novel, this one's okay; but if you are a fan of the show this is a great big grin on many levels. My hat is off to whoever the talent ghost is who made this all work.

I love the TV series "Castle" so I couldn't resist reading this book. A fun and quick read.

5 out of 5 stars Richard Castle - Heat Wave   November 24, 2009

This book is awesome! It is so cool to watch a TV show, see the book on the show then be able to actually purcahse the same book! Hope this show continues as the show is pretty awesome as well!

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!   November 24, 2009

I LOVE the show AND the book. Only a few pages left to read. Quick delivery. Thanks.

3 out of 5 stars Heat Wave by Richard Castle   November 23, 2009
I foumd this book to be a bit amateurish. It lacked the plot detail that most good detective books have. More intrigue with a fuller plot and story line would have made me happier.
