Product Description

Succeeding in an Extroverted Business World

In our extroverted business culture, introverts can feel excluded, overlooked, or misunderstood. But being an introvert doesn't mean you can't be a great leader. Citing examples of highly successful leaders like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, Jennifer Kahnweiler shows that introverts can build on their quiet strength and make it a source of great power.

After highlighting the common challenges introverts face at work, such as stress, invisibility, and perception gaps, the book details a straightforward four-step process to handle work situations such as managing up, leading projects, public speaking, and many more. Kahnweiler provides numerous examples and leadership tips as well as a revealing Introverted Leader Quiz that pinpoints where focused attention will produce maximum results, The Introverted Leader will teach you to embrace your natural work style in order to advance your career, get the most out of the people around you, and add value to your organization.

5 out of 5 stars Leading Quietly & Effectively   October 7, 2009
Larry Underwood (Scottsdale, AZ)

True leadership isn't measured by a person's charisma or the rhetoric they deliver. Those qualities are often mistaken for leadership, but sooner or later, the leader has to deliver with actions that match the rhetoric. Jennifer B Kahnweiler understands that, and demonstrates that introverts can become highly effective leaders, by quietly doing the right things, even when nobody's looking.

Certainly, there are challenges associated with being an introvert. The extroverts get most of the attention; and if they're charming enough, usually move into positions of leadership. However, their long-term success depends on their ability to get the desired results, in a way that demonstrates honesty & integrity.

In the long run, an introvert can use their quiet strength to lead effectively, assuming they have the moral fiber to gain acceptance. Once they've demonstrated the right stuff, they can not only succeed, but they can inspire other introverts to rise to the challenge of becoming an effective leader as well; albeit quietly.

Give me a quiet, confident and capable leader over a self-absorbed wind-bag any day of the week.

5 out of 5 stars Recommended reading for all introverts   September 24, 2009

For any introvert who has ever wondered about how to get ahead at work, this book is an excellent guide. The 3 things I like most about The Introverted Leader:

1. It is research based. Rather than relying solely on the author's experiences, observations or opinions, the book responds to questions and concerns that the author's research indicates are of great interest to introverts.

2. The term "leader" is broadly defined. I think this book provides invaluable information not only for leaders but for individual contributors as well, whether or not they aspire to leadership positions.

3. The numerous workplace examples described in the book illustrate well the recommended strategies and help make The Introverted Leader an interesting read.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST READ ... WOW!   August 24, 2009
David M. Pezzino (Atlanta, GA USA)
Thumbs-up! Here's a small book that packs a big punch. As an extrovert and executive coach, I now have a clear understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of introverts in the extroverted business world. I am already heeding the lessons in interacting with my introverted clients, and making the book required reading for introverts and extroverts alike. In an "out there" work culture, the advice and insights are indispensable.

5 out of 5 stars Deftly written, informed and informative, thoughtful and thought-provoking   August 13, 2009
Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)
While there are a great many extroverts like Donald Trumps throughout the business world, there are also a large number of highly successful introverts like Bill Gates, Warren Buffett as well. Author and executive trainer/consultant Jennifer B. Kahnweiler highlights the common challenges introverts face in the workplace in "The Introverted Leader: Building On Your Quiet Strength". These challenges within the corporate world include stress, 'invisibility', perception gaps, and all the vicissitudes of office politics. Of special note is the Leader Quiz that will reveal to the reader what he or she needs to utilize their natural work style so as to best advance their career and add substantial and appreciated value to their company or organization. Deftly written, informed and informative, thoughtful and thought-provoking, "The Introverted Leader" is very highly recommended reading -- especially for anyone who feels themselves at risk with respect to management skills, leadership responsibilities, public speaking, and progressing toward their career goals.

5 out of 5 stars Introverted = Enlightened!   August 12, 2009
Esther R. Escobedo (Alpharetta, Georgia USA)
It never occurred to me that leaders could be introverted by nature. I always thought that leaders had to be gregarious, charismatic extroverts. Dr. Kahnweiler's "The Introverted Leader" provided me with the insight that great leaders are probably introverts who have applied the wisdom contained in this rich little book. The ability to withhold comment until the response is carefully thought out; the gift of focusing the spotlight on the follower, it seems to me, is what an introvert is especially wired to do.
This book enables introverts like myself to bring out our leadership skills! Thank You
