A Great New Way To Experience Narnia! But With One BIG Problem August 10, 2009 Jacob Nunley (Louisville, KY USA) I love the Focus On The Family Radio Theatre Chronicles of Narnia dramas. Ever since they were released on cassette tape I have listend to them. I recently found this exact collection at a book store for $10 so I HAD to pick it up. I wasn't dissappointed, they were just as wonderful as I remembered them. The CD version has much better sound than the cassette tape version.
There is only one BIG problem... the 19 discs cannot be imported to iTunes!
I tried my computer and two of my friends' computers and they still won't import. The first few tracks of the disc will import perfectly, then the last few will stop at 12 seconds left and just freeze up. At first I thought it was my computer, but after trying two other computers I realized it was the discs. They must have either some sort of anti-piracy program on them or just faulty production, either way it's very difficult to import the discs to iTunes (some work after hours of in and out of the disc drive, others don't work ever, and even if you get a disc to import they still have defects and skips).
The CDs are great to listen to in a CD player, but I still want the MP3 version of these audio dramas to satisfy my craving for Narnia on my iPod.
If anyone has any information on why these won't import (or something I'm doing wrong) please let me know.
Enjoyable and fun to listen to. October 27, 2008 R. F. Gleason (Belfast, NY USA) The Narnia chronicles are enjoyed in this format. I have not read the books so I will not tell you they are perfect. The CD's gave me a chance to become acquainted with the stories. Different people play the different characters. It is radio theater.
Only One Problem September 14, 2007 Christopher C. Alsruhe (Baltimore, Maryland United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First, let me state that I love this production. I love sounds, and the sounds in this production are wonderful, especially with headphones so one can catch the more subtle nuances therein. I enjoy the actors and personalities. I simply love it. But . . .
Why didn't I give it 5 stars? I tend, with Poe, to be a purist about not editing another's work. After listening to The Horse and His Boy, I happened to start reading the book again and noticed that some dialogue was missing. I randomly turned to another section and immediately found more dialogue that was missing (an entire paragraph). Now I understand that with an oral/aural production, one can remove narrative and replace with the equivalent in sound. This is very effective, and even the point. But to remove dialogue is quite presumptious (and it can't be replaced with an equivalent in sound). And in the second case of removal noted above, suspicion of censorship is clearly raised.
Had Focus on the Family left the dialogue alone, this production would be elite in quality in every respect. Despite this [major] glitch, any fan of the Chronicles should purchase this particular set. Besides, any real fan is going to read the books anyway.
Great work of a classic series, but Aslan's voice is disappointing January 17, 2007 SKM (Spokane, WA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The CD series captures the story line well. All actors were well-cast except (unfortunately - regretably) Aslan. Other than that, Focus on the Family did a supurb job. If you've read the books, you'll not be disappointed with the CDs - just try to overlook Aslan's voice and focus on the story - and try to imagine what Aslan's voice is really like.
Great decent family time fun June 11, 2006 Mariana Marin (Florida) After getting hooked to a radio book I heard almost 3 years ago I decided to look for other Christian based audio book stories that I could enjoy with my son. I bought this for him and we have heard several so far. The stories are played out in a very real and tangible way. We have sat in bed with our eyes closed and it feels like you're in a theater. Of course it helps if you have surround sound but sounds just as good if not. Great for long trips in the car or to just play on a rainy day at home snuggled under the covers. This type of story telling awakens the imagination of children in a way that TV will never!!!!!
