Superb Yoga mat November 10, 2009 E. Preston Keogh (San Francisco) Superb Yoga mat.
I'm tall, and a big guy, and practice on various surfaces.
This mat is big and wide, and it helps me improve my poses.
Durable surface. Easy to clean. Rugged and reliable.
(It's a little heavy to carry around, and there are
other lighter travel mats better for trips,
but for everyday and local Yoga, this is a fantastic mat.
I give it a 5 Star rating.
Just remember... this is not a sticky mat November 8, 2009 C. Everett (Chicago IL) The traction on this mat is very poor when you first get it. I scrubbed it with water and shampoo in my bathtub and let it sit in the sun for a couple hours, a few times, the first week I got it. I believe Manduka says to allow 2-3 months of practice to break it in. But, considering how much it cost, I feel like it should be maintenance free and ready to use right away. The traction is still poor when I'm sweating a lot -or when my hands and feet are clammy- but the good news is, unlike my old mat, the manduka performs even better after you clean it.
It's a pretty big leap to go from spending less than 20 dollars on a yoga mat to $100. But after using this mat for a few months, I feel like it was worth the extra cash. I've heard people say they've had their mat for years and it still looks like it did the day they bought it.. so I don't expect to be replacing it for a very long time. It's durable, a bit heavier but not too heavy that you can't carry it to class with you (perfect for my home practice), and I'm tall, so I appreciate the extra length.
New to Yoga and Pilates October 23, 2009 Heather K (Minneapolis, MN) I am new to both Yoga and Pilates and purchased this mat mostly for yoga. I have used it for some pilates classes too, and it works for most of the pilates exercises and only feels too thin for a few of them. At 5'11" tall read many of the reviews recommending a longer mat, but also cautioning about the weight of the 85" mat. I am very happy that I purchased the 85" long mat, versus a shorter one and I am glad I sprang for the Manduka mat, versus a less expensive one. I look around in class at tall people struggling to stay in their shorter and slightly less wide mats and can stretch out on mine just fine.
I also bought a Yogitoes Big towel to use on the mat and that has also worked well. I purchased a Manduka mat sack to carry the mat and have not experienced problems carrying it around. Today I walked to the gym with my mat in tow. If you're getting into yoga I would suggest getting the right mat to begin with, and for me this one has worked very well so far!
If you're tall... October 18, 2009 Dana A. Mitchell (Hendersonville, TN USA) If you're tall like me, you will defiently want to get this one over the shorter version. If you're doing yoga
1) your entire body is on the mat including your feet.
2) when lying down, you're hands and arms actually stay by your side and don't hang off the sides
3) (if doing something more plyometric) there's enough space for jumping side-to-side and not ending up on the floor.
Manduka Mat is the Best. September 28, 2009 P. L. Dawson (Seattle, WA, USA) The Manduka Mat PRO is the best ever yoga mat. The thickness makes it much more comfortable than other mats. It is also longer than standard mats. The only downside is that because of these features, it is a little heavier - but worth every ounce!
