1 out of 5 stars Broke quickly, inconvenient to use.   November 13, 2009

I bought this model on Ebay and am glad I paid much less than $33.

1. I did not realize how inconvenient it would be to hit the button to get my heart rate. The response takes longer than I wanted to wait. Neither of these features are a fault, they are clearly described in description. I only mention it because I realized the chest-strap style is worth more than the inconvenience of putting on the strap.

2. It's cheap. The plastic on the face cracked and the readout on the face went blank. I think I only got in 10 uses. It doesn't even work as a watch anymore.

Save your money.

This heart monitor rate watched promised a lot but did not deliver. I was never able to get it to work.

I gave it 2 stars because the vendor was gracious enough to provide a prompt refund.

If the watch had been as good as the vendor......

2 out of 5 stars Loved it at first but...   September 18, 2009

The heart rate monitor worked okay but sporatically at first; but after about 2 months time the HR feature seldom worked. I read the directions carefully, (ensuring that the body is not touching so that it can get a "read", etc...) & followed them to the letter, but no matter what position I'm in - no reading. Great watch; but what's the point? I just bought a different brand with a chest strap which should produce more reliable results.

5 out of 5 stars Simple, easy to use   September 5, 2009

This watch is exactly what the description says it is: It measures your heart rate at the touch of a button, it has a built in alarm and a stopwatch. No pesky belts/straps, no unnecesary functionality and it looks nice (and discreet) enough for every day personal use without sticking out too much.

Buy this watch if you want to monitor your BPMs during excercise (and why not, at other moments of the day, like sitting in the office) and be able to time how long you've been excercising.

Obviously if you need something with more functionalities (or, have a need to always keep both hands busy and/or gloved, thus not allowing you to press with your bare finger the button for those 3-8 seconds) you should be looking at something else with a chest strap. But for the money, this is a very good watch/heart rate monitor.

I can't comment on battery life since I've owned this watch for less than a month.

4 out of 5 stars Tips for a good reading   July 5, 2009

I have been satisfied with this heart rate monitor, however, I only use it to track sinus tachycardia and not for exercise. As others have stated, I sometimes have trouble getting a reading, but I think this is from what the manual refers to as "muscle noise" because, whenever I have dificulty it is when I am using arms muscles to hold my watch arm up (bent 90 degres at the elbow with the watch face facing the sky). I find that I get more quick/accurate readings when I bend my arm 90 degress at the elbow but point the watch face at the ground and rest all the weight of that arm on the finger that it on the button taking the reading, rather than using arm muscles to hold the angle. The beeps are a little hard to hear that way, but for me it is worth for the speed and accuracy. Though, as I said at the beginning, I do not use this watch for heavy exercise so I don't know if the technique works in that situation.
