Amazon.com Product Description
Stay within your ideal training and intensity range while jogging or working out with the Polar FT40 women's heart rate monitor watch. The FT40 works by first checking your daily condition, and then guiding you to the ideal training intensity for your age and fitness level. Knowing your heart rate not only helps you reach your personal fitness goal, but also improves your physical condition in general, as it's vitally important to train at the appropriate intensity level. If you exercise too hard, you may quit before you reach the real benefit, but if you work out too leisurely, you'll struggle to lose weight at all. The FT40 helps overcome these problems by encouraging you to map out a complete fitness routine.

The FT40 is packed with innovative training features to help you toward your exercise goals. First off, the watch displays heart rate info in several ways, including as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, as beats per minute, and within a graphical target zone indicator. The watch also offers a visual and audible alarm for when you exceed or dip below your target zone--a great way to stay motivated while on the track. And users will love the EnergyPointer, ZonePointer, and Polar OwnCal modes. The EnergyPointer determines the point at which your training no longer just burns fat but also improves your overall fitness level--an ideal feature for high-performance runners. The ZonePointer, meanwhile, is an audible and visual feature on the display of your FT40 that shows you where your current heart rate sits within your target heart rate zone. Finally, the Polar OwnCal mode shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session, as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. You can also set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure, helping you achieve both short-term and long-term goals.

Other features include a built-in fitness test that measures your aerobic fitness at rest in just five minutes; a ZoneLock mode that lets you activate a target zone in the midst of training with the press of a button; an OwnCode mode that prevents crosstalk from other heart rate monitors nearby; a recording mode that tracks your average and maximum heart rate, calorie expenditure, and total exercise time, and then puts it in an exercise file (with 50 total files); water resistance to 30 meters; a 12/24-hour clock with a day/week indicator; a built-in backlight; an alarm with a snooze; a low battery indicator; and a Polar FlowLink connection for transferring data between the FT40 and a computer. Sporting an attractive green housing, the watch carries a two-year warranty.

Manufacturer's Warranty
The original purchaser of this heart rate monitor is backed by a limited warranty that states that this product that the product will be free from defects in material or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase.

About Polar
The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

4 out of 5 stars Great sports watch   November 2, 2009
Luvztigger (CA)
This is a great heart monitor sports watch. Chest strap is comfortable to wear , the watch readings are mostly accurate for high intensity workouts. The only thing I have noticed is that the calorie expenditure reading at low intensity workout( 50-65% VO2 max) is not very accurate. It showed only a 120 calorie bunred for an intense 1 hour 15 min of weight training which doesn't seem right.I mean you burn more than that just by doing yoga! But the cardio calorie readings are pretty close to what I expected. For 70 minutes of running @ 10 min/mile showed a 625 calorie which is close to what I expected. All and all, I think its a good watch, you can keep track of your heart rate and training zones. I just won't use it for my muscle training workouts.

4 out of 5 stars FT40   October 26, 2009

I love this monitor. It works as described. Came on time and w/out an issue. My only critique would be the numbers are a tad small in room not totally lit. I excersise in my bedroom where it can be somewhat dark (depending on time of day) When dimly lit it is harder to see. Other then that I would buy this again and would recomend it to a friend, as I have.

5 out of 5 stars MOTIVATION x2   October 22, 2009
Chad Taufen (Prior Lake, MN)
All I can say is even with the limited directions included, this is NOT a hard watch to figure out and use. After about maybe 10 minutes of entering in my personal data and doing the VO2 test, you are ready to go. This thing tracks total time exercising, time in fat burning zone, time in fitness zone, total calories burned, % of calories from fat, and max/avg beats per minute. It's extremely motivating to see the results at the end of the workout, thats for sure. This is definitely worth the price!

5 out of 5 stars Great tool for weight loss   September 21, 2009

This watch has been a great motivating tool for losing weight. First, it's more satisfying to track my workouts with the definite number of calories burned instead of just guessing. Second, it keeps me realistic and that keeps me sticking to my diet better (Before, I tended to fall into the logic trap that a little bit of exercise would balance out that dessert). Third, it helps me adjust my workout to stay in a good zone of exertion - not too hard and not too easy.
The watch is very easy to use (and I'm not patient with technology). The chest band is comfortable; I don't hardly notice it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!   August 19, 2009

This is a must fitness equipment. I was supprised how easy it is to use. It's so intuitive that I didn't need manual at all. It works like a charm, strap is comfortable and display is clear. It has all the functionality I was looking for. I was surprised that all Polar fitness machines at the gym I go supports this so that I don't have to keep my hands on the handles anymore to see my heart rate. This really motivates me to excercise more. This product gets my recommendations!
