Not as good as my old Polar October 23, 2009 Edward Lafferty (Essex, MA USA) This HR Monitor has lots of great features but, the most important one, the Heart Rate Monitor doesn't give a consistent reading. I've changed the batteries on both the monitor and the watch and the HR monitor still isn't constantly picking up a signal. It will go from 160 (which is approx. my running HR) to 70 in the same 1/2 mile. I haven't totally given up on it. I'll keep moving the monitor around to see if I can get it in a better spot.
Great heart rate monitor, though beware of "unisex" sizing October 9, 2009 Forsyth Fan (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this heart rate monitor for about a month now and really like it. I wasn't looking for something with every bell and whistle or the ability to download to a computer, just a basic but well built HRM. It has all of the basic features I need without being cluttered with features I don't.
Form factor: The watch itself is a bit on the big/thick side but it feels very solid and well built. It also is styled like a classic Ironman watch, which I prefer to some of the Polar and Nike HRMs. Be aware that the strap is biased more towards fitting larger wrists, even though it is listed as Unisex. The strap from end to end is 10 1/2 inches long, so plenty of size to fit larger wrists, but women with smaller wrists may have trouble getting a snug fit even on the smallest loop. I share this with my wife and she has this issue. I suppose you could buy a smaller replacement strap if needed.
Set up: Pretty intuitive, though the manual could be more clear about how certain settings work (and the manual itself is tiny). Seeting up your weight, zones, etc is all done quickly and is much more straightforward than the Polar HRMs I have owned.
In use: The watch and transmitter sync up very quickly with little moisture needed to make the connection work. I like the big display and large numbers, its very easy to steal a quick glance and get all the information I need. You can swap the display so that whatever is most important to you is displayed in the largest numbers or have it so only your heart rate is showing. The review mode lets you go through your work out, with info like time in your zone, average HR, peak HR, min HR, and calories burned. The Indiglo light works great (with a button press) and is much better than their watches with the "flick" feature.
Other: Another feature I really like is that you can change the battery in the strap yourself, unlike Polar where you have to send it in or go to a dealer to get it changed. To be fair, the chest transmitter is a little bulky but I gladly trade the slightly larger transmitter for the ability to change the battery myself.
All in all, I give the watch 4.5/5 but chose 4 given the sizing not being consistent with a unisex watch.
Timex Ironman Watch September 21, 2009 J D Quimby (Omaha, NE USA) Watch was recieved within 3 days of my order. It was well packaged and sent in original packaging as advertised. Watch was what I was looking for as a repalcement to an older model Timex Ironman heartrate monitor watch. It's heartrate chest strap transmitter is compatible with the older model, which is nice to have multiple compatible straps, so I don't have to worry about mixing them up. The watch has nice big numbers that are easy to read. Just wish that is could store more then one workout and that it had more then one alarm. Also wish it had a more neutral face trim. The international orange trim stands out a little to much for my liking. Other then that it's a great watch and heartrate monitor.
Easy to use. August 29, 2009 J. Armendariz (Englewood, CO USA) Once you get the operational functions down, this is an easy to use training device.
Times Ironman Road Trainer Heart Rate Monitor July 30, 2009 M. BORNFELD (Brooklyn, NY) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had previously purchased a heart rate monitor with an analog transmitter system, and it would only work if it was nowhere near any electrical equipment (e.g., fluorescent lighting, television, or treadmill). The Timex heart rate monitors (including this unit) that have a digital transmission eliminate this electrical interference issue.
I have never been particularly fond of excessive bells and whistles, perhaps because I am technologically challenged--I have never found a use for all the extra features, much less been able to figure out how to use them. This unit does lack some features that some users may have preferred to have-- it doesn't retain more than one workout in memory, for example. I am also unsure whether the transmitter is compatible with treadmills and other equipment that work with Polar brand transmitters. But if you want a reliable heart rate monitor that provides real-time guidance of where your heart rate is, then this unit fits the bill.
