Amazon.com Product Description
The Omron HR-100C Heart Rate Monitor is easy to program and a cinch to wear with a ventilated watch band. Knowing your heart rate is important because if you're working out too hard, your activity can actually become counter productive and strain or damage muscles.

Monitor your heart rate with Omron's HR-100C. View larger.
To achieve an effective workout, no matter what the aerobic activity, you must maintain your heart rate at a proper level for a minimum of 20 minutes. In general, the proper level falls between 65 percent-85 percent of your maximum heart rate. To ensure you don't drop above or below your proper level, the HR-100C is built with an alarm option that indicates low and high heart rates.

Omron includes a chest transmitter belt with the wristwatch-style monitor. This transmitter sends data to the receiver on your wrist at a distance up to 98 feet (30 meters). The HR-100C is built with a backlight function for exercising after nightfall, and it also displays time of day and a daily reminder alarm feature. Also included is a mounting bracket that makes it easy to attach the watch receiver to most treadmills and bicycles and a soft, zippered storage case.

Q&A - Fitness Monitors
What is the Bioelectrical Impedance Method?
Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) is considered one of the most accurate and accessible methods of screening body fat. Muscles, blood vessels and bones are body tissues having a high water content that conduct electricity easily. Body fat is tissue that has little electric conductivity. The monitor sends an extremely weak electrical current through your body to determine the amount of fat tissue. The weak electrical current is not felt while operating the Body Fat Analyzer. The monitor is calculated by a formula that includes five factors; electric resistance, height, weight, age and gender.
What is visceral fat?
Visceral fat is located around the organs. Too much visceral fat is thought to be closely linked to increased level of fat in the bloodstream, which can lead to common conditions such as high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Sedentary life style causes excess visceral fat, and exercise can reduce it quicker than subcutaneous fat (fat located under skin).
What is resting metabolism?
Resting metabolism is the energy to maintain vital functions and it counts 60 to 70% of total energy consumption. Knowing your resting metabolism can help your dietplan. If you can increase daily activity while keeping food intake at resting metabolism level, you can lose weight.
What is skeletal muscle?
Skeletal muscle is muscle attached to the bones that is used to move the body. If you do weight loss without exercise, you may lose skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is important to maintain your resting metabolism as well as your functionality. Monitoring skeletal muscle during weight loss is key to avoid weight rebound in the future.

5 out of 5 stars simple & effective   November 2, 2009
MC
All I wanted was a heart rate monitor and a watch. Because I didn't want all the extra fancy feature, I was worried I would have to purchase a piece of junk that would die after a year. However, I am very happy with this simple, inexpensive item. It's exactly what I wanted and looks and feels like a quality item.

4 out of 5 stars Great product for price   November 2, 2009

I purchased this heart rate monitor to kick up my cardio workouts. It works great - with just a few minor issues. the first is that it was advertised as a woman's monitor, but the strap is pretty large. I've got it adjusted to the smallest possible length, and still have to tuck it up under my workout tops. The other issue is with the warranty. To get the warranty, you need to fill in the serial number, which is supposed to be on the back. I have not found it yet and will need to call the company. Small stuff. Overall, a very good product.

5 out of 5 stars Just what you need :)   October 25, 2009

Since I got this Heart Rate Monitor(HRM) for my dad who works out twice a day all I get is good comments.

Display:
- Big, clear numbers
- Simple
- Can read on any kind of day: from sunny to rainy

Functions:
- HRM
- Range you want to work out

Looks:
- Gooooooood

Quality:
- It's been 4 months, so far so...awesome!!

Very easy to use, the only thing is that i had to agree that while you get your ideal spot for the band the HRM won't display a good HR, but as soon as you get it -took 5 minutes for us- it's very accurate and...the price, OMG.

1 out of 5 stars Absolutely unreliable   October 17, 2009

This meter worked for a week after it arrived. Now it rarely works. Water is always required, but sometimes even with lots of water there is no reading. Trying to use the meter to take a resting pulse before getting up in the morning is impossible for a couple reasons. Not only does Rega have to keep water near the bed, but also by the time, she has made several attempts adding more water each time, the pulse has gone up.

Contacting Omron during the warranty period, she was told that
(1) we would have to pay to return the item.
(2) Manufacturer might decide that the product was in perfect condition.
(3) We would have to reimburse Omron for its shipping costs if it elected to replace the item.

Condition (3) was revealed only after her third call to Omron. It prompted us to return the item instead to Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed   October 13, 2009

I have been using this HRM now for about 3 weeks and I love it. This is the first monitor I have ever owned and it does exactly what I wanted it to do, tell me my heart rate. I have been using it for running and it has helped me keep up a good pace and I've found that I am actually running faster because I can keep myself in a tight zone. I have not used the alarm setting but rather I just glance down at the watch to see whether I am above or below my target and I am able to quickly adjust my pace more or less depending on the reading. I also make use of the stopwatch function, however, you cannot see your HR and time on the same display. This is not really a problem as far as I'm concerned because you just have to press the red button once and cycle between the two screens. There is no logging capabilities which might be nice but for $34 you really can't ask for anything more. I have not had battery or detection trouble as others have described so I was happy with that. The case it comes with is also a nice feature. The chest strap is not uncomfortable but it does have a tendency to loosen up over time so be sure to adjust before every use. Also, the strap is fairly large which is ok for me but would be a problem for smaller people. Overall I am completely satisfied with this purchase.
