While it isn't released on its own, it is being released on Classic Holiday Stories, Vol. 9. Honestly, the whole DVD is a bit of a treat, I think kids today are missing out on some real classics and I was totally pleased to finally find "The Small One" on DVD, my little VHS copy from the TV wasn't going to last much longer. I came on Amazon specifically to look for this movie. I used to watch it every year, but have not seen it on TV for many years. My husband had never seen it, and I retold the story to him- and he cried just HEARING it! And I cried just TELLING it! Watching it, you need to have a box of tissues handy. What a wonderul story! I'm ashamed of Disney for not bringing it to DVD!
