This movie is only a sample of the great artistic work of the talented actress Andrea Lawn. I highly recommend it.

This beautiful little film tells the story of Molly, a rather sad and lonely little girl who has recently immigrated to the US from Russia. The "in-crowd" girls make fun of her accent, her clothes, even the food she brings for lunch. As Thanksgiving nears, the teacher asks each student to make a Pilgrim doll at home. Molly, of course, has to be told what Thanksgiving is, much to the delight of the girls who taunt her. Molly explains to her mother that a pilgrim was someone who came here from another country for religious freedom. "Like us!" her mama says, and makes a doll that looks like a Jewish/Russian peasant girl. Molly is horrified, but takes the doll to school anyway. The teacher wisely explains to the class that Molly's pilgrim is, indeed, a pilgrim, and the mean classmates decide that Molly is friend-material, after all. It's really too bad that this video isn't sold anymore on Amazon[.com]; we need more films about tolerance and kindness like this. It is not heavy-handed; it is told from Molly's perspective. We share her agony and her ultimate joy. The actors are natural and believable; Molly's grief at not fitting in is universally understood and appreciated by children 7-10 years of age. Until the film is available again, I recommend reading the book, Molly's Pilgrim, by Barbara Cohen. It's easy to read and just as good as the video!
Molly' s Pilgrim November 24, 2000 Carol Hays (Blountsville, AL USA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I borrowed "Molly's Pilgrim" from a co-worker to share with 4th-6th graders in my counseling classes at school. It was just before Thanksgiving. They were told to watch for rude comments, intolerance, and prejudice. We had a very good discussion after the video. The message I hoped to get across to the students was well received because of the video. I want a copy for myself!!!!! Please get it back in print.

I showed this video to a class of kindergarten children who had in their midst a child who had recently come with her family from Bulgaria. She had trouble with English and with much of the culture, just as Molly does in the video. These children, who do not have a notably long attetion span, were spellbound for the 23 + minutes of the video, and asked to watch it again. I used it in conjunction with other material about immigration and the American melting pot. I got it from a library, but I wish I could purchase it to use every year!
