Quite simply, I fell in love with this product up front. It arrived on Friday, It was heavy. about 16 lbs of metal. I spent all day Friday and all Day Saturday learning to program it and writing my profile for IL-2. Sunday Night I went to fly. The throttle was awesome, it felt great in my hand, the action was smooth enough. Not fantastic, but acceptable. Then I went to make some maneuvers to see how the stick handled. It was TERRIBLE. The springs on the stick are so stiff as to make it unflyable (they have 18lb springs in them stock, that makes it 36 lbs of force to pull and roll) . My hand still hurts from the effort required to keep a grip on the stick and accomplish even the simplest of maneuvers. Worse, it has very noticeable flat spots along each axis, so that while its OK to move up and down or left and right, but if you attempt to roll and pull, it becomes nearly impossible to do so smoothly. Something that is absolutely required when playing any kind of prop flight sim is SMOOTH movement of the flight stick.
After about 60 sec. of this I decided that this was for the birds. Pulled up Amazon's return policy, got an RMA and sent it back by UPS today (Monday).

The Hotas Cougar is as close to the real thing as you can get but without spending millions on a real jet. The construction is metal and is actually very heavy. This is the joystick that everyone needs to buy and quit wasting your money on the cheap plastic ones that won't take the beating like these will.
I should have never waited to buy this joystick.
It you fly flight sims and you don't have this joystick then your not flying.

I only want to comment with respect to the disappointing elevator/aileron "feel" of the Hotas Cougar Joystick. I had hoped it would mimic the gliding, effortless, detent-free feel joystick feel that makes flying an aircraft such as the Lancair 360 such sheer extacy. Instead the Cougar is a clumsy control that one has to horse around to perform even a simple coordinated turn. I just remembered what it reminded me of, the fawcet lever on my kitchen sink.
It't too bad the Cougar may represent the state of the art of joysticks because for it takes much of the fun out of of sim flight. Flying an airplane with it feels more like driving a tank.

I am a F-16 pilot and this joy stick is like the real one!!!! easy to programme and to use it!!!! I am completeley pleased with it !!!The quality is fine !!
