    Amazon.com Product Description

Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.

    Story
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs.

    Gameplay
The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them.

Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches.

    Special Ops Co-op Mode
Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality.

    Key Game Features

    • Challenging Multiplayer ModesModern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
    • Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
    • An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
    • The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
    • Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
    • Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
    • New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
    • New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
    • New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

4 out of 5 stars Great new maps, everything else is just all right   November 26, 2009
    JLower
    Single Player Mode:

Good: Scenes are amazing, they're overblown, dramatic, and ridiculous. It's almost a good escape, but compared to COD4, it's a taken a different direction in storytelling.

Bad: The single player is too short, a lot of people do enjoy great single player experiences on top of MP games. The story should have been better developed instead of focusing on all these dramatic unrealistic scenes. The individual character storyline is missing.

    Multiplayer Mode:

Good: The new maps are bigger, tons of rooftops, with a bunch of new perks and killstreaks to unlock, which can keep folks pretty busy. New 3rd person mode, not for everyone, but something for everyone (I'm thinking Warhawk fans).

Bad: Too many pop-up alerts when taking down opponents, it's a bit distracting and makes the game too arcade. The maps are better but the respawn spots still need work. The current set of maps seem to be better for snipers than everyone else who does not play that class.

Spec Ops is a nice addition to all the game modes, plus there is split screen.

The PS3 version seems to lag a bit on network connection issues. Games still end early much like COD4 with network issues. This would have been a better game if the mechanics like connections were ironed out. It seems like the network connection still does things like let you get taken out with a single shot while you unload an entire clip due to the lag. Watching the killcam a few times and seeing how your shots didn't do anything is a bit frustrating.

3 out of 5 stars Storyline is way to bizarre!   November 26, 2009

This review is just concerning the plot.

I just finished playing COD4: MW again, after I got MW2 on the first day and finished it very shortly after. Note that since the very first COD, I always play it for the single player campaigns.

MW2 is a great game, no doubt, but compared to COD4 its weird. I recommend you all replay COD4, to appreciate really how good it actually was when it got released. The story is compelling, realistic, with a few twists, interesting and coherent at all times.

Now MW2. I don't know what Infinity Ward were thinking when they came up with the plot. No spoilers here, no worries, but let me just say it is absolutely unrealistic, not coherent and so full of twists (sadly not of the intelligent kind) that it really doesn't make a lot of sense. Sure the sceneries are fantastic, and its good fun to play in some of those very well known locations, but I think most of time MW2 feels over the top - too exaggerated.

4 stars for fun, but considering issues with the storyline, only 3 stars overall from me.

4 out of 5 stars Great game but some problems   November 25, 2009

This game is perssonaly one of my favorite games of all time. Single Player is AMAZING Special ops is pretty fun and multiplayer has many problems but still is fun.

    Single Player-
    Pros-
    -Great Levels
    -Graphics amazing
-Stealth is great in some levels
-Did great on making huge war scenes and making it as realistic as possible

    Cons-
    -Short
-Story is sometimes hard to follow

    Special Ops-
    Pros-
    -Big variety of mission objectives
-There is a mission in every level of SP and even some from the first MW
    -CO OP system is ok

    Cons-
-The only way to play online is by inviting a friend you cant go into a lobby and search for someone to play with
    -Missions can be frustrating

    Multiplayer
    Pros-
    -Great XP system
-Lots of different weapons and equipment to choose from
-You automaticly have a ghillie suit on if you pick a sniper rifle

    Cons-
-Some lag happens every now and then
-Loses connection with host and then justs ends the match alot
-Constant XP awards and crap popping up on your screen
-I will load tons of bullets into someone and not kill him and he'll pick me off in one shot

over all this is a great game but multiplayer kind of kept me from giving it five stars.

5 out of 5 stars Love it.   November 25, 2009

This is the best FSP out there. Haven't played the story mode much but who really buys these games for that anyways? The best part is the expanded perks and killstreaks. I can't wait for the new map packs to come out. I have to say though, I can't for the life of me figure out why they changed the way you invite friends in your lobby, it's such a pain. COD 4 had that right, they shouldn't have messed with it. With that being said, if you don't have this game yet you need to run out an get it today.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this CoD !   November 25, 2009

Pros: Great graphics and runs fast.
As far as game play goes, I believe that this game should be rated by SP and MP individually:
    5/5
    Single Player -
The story line is great. There are so many different missions where you do things that you were never able to do in previous call of duty's.
    2/5
    Multiplayer -
It is hard to find pros about this one.... um there are a lot of new weapons, classes, perks and so forth

    Cons: Single player:
    none
    Multiplayer:
OH MY GOSH(ugh) IT BLOWS. I thought that I could get past it, but I can't.
The game is using steam now for not just multiplayer, but sp too. SP you don't see it so much only when you complete a mission and it pops up saying junk. For multiplayer it makes me want get a refund for the game:
the game picks the server and the people that you are going to be playing with for you. this means NO DEDICATED SERVERS! WTH We all find servers that we like for what ever reason it might be. This makes it impossible to do this. The "lobby" system is slow and frustrating. Why they decided to team up with steam, I have no idea. I personally hate steam, its a useless program.

Other Thoughts: (I gave this game a 1star/5 because we need to make a point, it IS about what the GAMERS/CUSTOMER wants)
If you are wanting to buy this game for MP, DON'T! They need to realize that the whole "lobby" system doesn't work for PC's.
If you are buying this game for SP use only then WHAT ARE YOU DOING, BUY IT!
