Product Description The Maxxima nightlight employs LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology which is revolutionizing the lighting market. Since LEDs consume 10 percent of the energy of incandescent lamps, this Nightlight should cost no more than $0.25 cents a year to operate when used an average of 10 hours a day. Use it in bathrooms, kitchens, seniors living quarters, vacation homes, etc. The LED in this light gives off an agreeable comfortable sky blue glow. I could not stand the type of light the LED provides November 19, 2009 JON IN L.A. (West Hollywood, CA) I am a bit light sensitive and found the light coming from this nightlight unbearable.
NOTE: I purchased this (many) at my local hardware store. In Southern California, there are HUGE discounted prices for some products by SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON.
I found these for 49c (down from 99c) at Anawalt Lumber. Bought half a dozen, and just couldn't stand the light the led provided. Didn't return them since they were so incredibly cheap.
FYI - SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON (and maybe other power companies around the US) has super cheap prices for low power use lighting sold through regular retail stores, such as Anawalt Lumber (a very small chain of 4 or 5 stores) in Los Angeles.
They have led desk lamps for 49c. I have a bunch and give them out often as gifts. Not great, but for the price ....
Also CFC bulbs for 99c or maybe now down to 49c ...
They also have amazing indoor and outdoor hardwire ceiling fixtures for $3.49 with the bulb included.
All the prices are subsidized by SCE, without have to go through any rebates or anything.
There may be similar promotions around, so keep an eye out if you are looking for amazing lighting deals.

Light Sensor Light Doesn't Work September 25, 2009 G. Housknecht (Independence, MO United States) I bought a pkg of three of these a couple years ago or more. The lights all come on when plugged in - no problem. However, I bought them for the light-sensor capability and for that reason I rate them two stars. The light sensor on all of these is so in-sensitive (no adjustments) that they have to practically be in direct sunlight to make the light go out. Everywhere we have tried to use them in the house ... they are on 24 hours a day. We have had them directly across hallways from windows, some about 10' from open storm doors with full outside light. Some models let you twist the sensor so it aims more directly to a good source, but it does little good in most locations.
If you shine a bright flashlight into the sensor, the light will go off. If you put one at a little angle from an outdoor window bright with sunlight, it will not go off. We put it on the end of an extension cord and kept moving it closer to being directly in front of the window and the light would not go out until we were about 10 degrees (maybe 15 degrees) from being directly in front of the window.
Quite simply - Do not buy these if you want them to be off during daylight hours.
Consider Alternatives!!!! August 22, 2009 Oaklander (Oakland, ca) I bought `FIVE' of these night lights for our house. I ended up throwing away all of them since their brightness faded away with time. Consider alternatives before you spend money on these useless lights.
MLN- 10 LED NIGHT LIGHT WITH SENSOR July 5, 2009 Joseph J. Lofton I purchase two of these lights because I was so impress with the light it produced, Not real bright, but not very dim. I use one in the bathroom and I don't have to turn on the main light to see at night. they don't get hot, that is a plus for me my old night light got pretty warm. they also give off a nice blue light.
Maxxima MLN-10 LED Night Light With Sensor April 28, 2009 M. Malone (Vancouver, B.C. Canada) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Aesthetically speaking, this night light looks somewhat cheap; when on, you can see the internal light shine through the supposedly opaque white plastic cover. It looks decent when it's off, though.
It's bright enough so you can see where you're walking. It's not too bright at all. I use it in my hallway which is otherwise totally dark at night.
They are easy to install; just plug them into the socket and they'll automatically turn on when it gets dark. My complaint with other night-lights is that they turn on while the room is still bright enough to read a newspaper in. This night light turns on only when it's getting dark enough that I actually need light.
If you have poor eyesight or if need as much light as possible, here's a trick; install the night light up-side down where the photovoltaic (sp?) sensor points down. The light bouncing off the floor is darker than light coming from windows/ceiling so your night light will turn on earlier. No skill needed; just unplug the night light, turn it 180 degrees, and plug it back in.
For the price you can't go wrong and I give it 5 stars. I had these for 3-4 months now and I would use them again.
==== Annual Update ====
1 year later the lights still work as new. No burn-outs or breakages, although a 1-year-old boy that we babysit keep pulling it out. If I were to start over, I'd rather get an electrical socket/faceplate with a night light permanently recessed (cannot be pulled out). Such products are available on this website.
