I've had many expensive nonstick frypans over the years, but this one is the best, and not as pricey! It really is NON stick and easy to clean! Remember to follow the instructions of preheating on medium heat and do not use nonstick cooking spray. You can use oil or butter, but it's really not necessary. My only minor complaint is that the sides of the pan are not very high, so sometimes when stirring, things can go over the sides. Otherwise, it's fantastic!
The perfect bacon and eggs pan March 10, 2009 Ted K (Virginia) I've had my scanpan pan for several years now. It is my daily breakfast pan allowing me to cook perfect eggs any style; especially my favorite, once over easy with perfect yolks.
The pans heat evenly across the bottom. Maybe not as even as the best pans, but darn good for a lightweight breakfast pan.
The nonstick surface can be worn down, but only so far. You will not get tattered teflon pieces wearing up from the bottom. My pan after years of use is still non-stick, just not as slick.
Cons: OK, I didn't pay an arm and a leg for my pan, but the lip is straight all around. Nice and even, but everything dribbles down the side of the pan. When I transfer an omelet to someone's plate I must wipe the side of the pan before I put it back on the burner for the next omelet.
I've never had any other non-stick pan last for more than a few months even using nylon utensils. The scanpan has lasted for years and I do not distinguish which utensil I reach for. The pan is non stick which allows me to use nylon or silicone utensils without fighting stuck pieces. I just prefer the control I get with a metal utensils that do not get floppy when hot.
Scanpan Professional 9-1/2-Inch Fry/Omelet Pan January 17, 2009 E. Simpson (California) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the second Professional Omelet Scanpan I have purchased. I bought this for my son and he uses it all the time as I do. Great buy, excellent pan. Non stick works great. If you like egg dishes, this works for fried, scrambled or omelets. Recommend.
Overrated and Not So Non-stick Pan August 20, 2008 Nuknuk (Springfield, VA United States) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
We got a large sauce pan, 1 small and 1 medium size fry pans.
I was very excited the first time we got our Scanpans. I read about the new technology surrounding this product that supposedly to be non-stick for many years. Now, we only have the big sauce pan left. We have to throw away the 2 fry pans.
To give it some credit, they lasted a couple of years before it started to peel off (actually not peeling off like a teflon. It starts to have some tiny holes on the surface which grows in size as you use it. Then finally when we see the metal base, we got worried that pieces of those non-stick surface gets to our food that we decided it's time to get rid of it). The non-stick properties starts to wear off before it lasted a year.
Pros:
-heavy and thick to distribute heat evenly
-Handles are oven resistant so you can actually use it to cook in the oven
-Well made, great construction. Durable.
Cons:
-Not as non-stick as teflon. And non-stick properties continue to deteriorates as you use it. Approximately a year.
-Not a good value. For the price, it should last much longer.
-Not for induction cooking.
Excellent August 18, 2008 MK (Durham, NC) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Well made, durable, looks good...
What more do you need from a frying pan?
(Actually, a lid would have been nice.)
I disagree with the 1 star review trying to fuel the PTFE scare. You MIGHT need to worry if you're MAKING the pans at a factory, but the finished product is NOT carcinogenic. I'm a scientist and I read the real literature about this - my opinion is that there is no cause to worry about the nonstick coating.
