Always having to charge this sucker November 5, 2009 JenBig (St Louis, MO) As a vacuum it works great, picks up well and the attachments are great. My only complaint, and it is a big one is that it has to be recharged all the time. I followed directions upon opening it and charged it for 24 hours but still this vacuum just doesn't cut it as an everyday-use handheld vacuum to have around and grab when you need to clean up a mess because it either drains as it sits unused or it's charge life is only a few minutes. This vac often dies in the middle of a cleanups in fact it spends more time charging than it does cleaning. I love the shark cordless sweepers, I have two, they work great and hold their charge, this item however DOES NOT.
Works as advertised November 5, 2009 Richard G. Chancellor The Shark vac does a great job. Only one problem and that's with the manual. It states to have an initial charge of 20 hours before using and to fully discharge it before the next charge. The manual doesn't say how long these subsequent charges should be. Found out the next 3 charges are 20 - 24 hours and after that 8 - 12 hours.
Pitiful November 1, 2009 BG (FL) After reading all the reviews I thought this was the one to buy.
However, it was a big mistake.
It will not even pick up the lint on our pool table much less anything else.
I used it in my car and truck but had to break out the shop vac and re-do everything.
No power, No suction, Pitiful excuse for a hand held vacuum.
I loved this vac....until it stopped suctioning just 3 months later October 29, 2009 J. Bowthorpe Yup, I really did like this handheld 15.6 volt, cordless vac by Shark, which I chose after doing good internet search on ratings. I used it around 5 times a week, mostly on small carpet areas around table and to sweep up crumbs around couch after family watches TV and snacks. It had good suction on our tiny carpet area when the revolving piece was attached; I loved the green color; it was easy to keep charged with a small cord; smaller suction device did excellent around edges.
But suddenly, just THREE MONTHS after I bought it, it completely stopped suctioning and the motor now had this high whiny loud sound. And guess what?? A person who rated the top notch handvac I am now ordering to replace it (BLACK AND DECKER PHV 1800, 18-volt pivot vac) states that their Shark went bad THREE TIMES!!
I am NOT impressed with a product that goes bad so quickly. So no matter how much I liked it, what use is that if the product completely stops working after only 3 months? A waste of my money, and apparently, I'm not alone in finding that out.
Normal battery charge October 27, 2009 John A. Phillippe (Yeadon, Pa.) I have just received my Shark cordless vacuum and it is now on it's first charge, so I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I note that most of the complaints about this vacuum are the inability to obtain a normal charge. The problem is easy to solve and this goes for all rechargeable battries. Start by removing the battery from the unit, then wrap in a paper towel and place it in the refrigerator on the door near the butter shelf (do not place it in the freezer) leave it in the refrigerator for five days. Remove from the refrigerator after the five days and place it in the unit, it's not necessary for the battery to reach room temperature, then proceed to apply the normal charge called for by the manufacture. This has worked every time for me and even has revived batteries that seem dead. I would like to add one more thing, I wish the manufacture would invent a throw away paper filter for the dust cup, some what like coffee filters, this way one would never have to clean the dust cup it's self and I must admit also that a twenty hour charge for the battery is a bit much.
