Product Description
The D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router (DIR-825) is the addition to the award-winning Xtreme N product family. The dual band technology in the DIR-825 supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless signals at the same time. This allows you to check e-mail and browse the Internet using the 2.4GHz band while simultaneously streaming High-Definition (HD) movies and other media on the 5GHz band. The DIR-825 is designed for users looking to get a true HD wireless connection that can handle multiple HD video streams throughout the house, while being backward compatible with existing 802.11g and 802.11a products.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible reliability   November 26, 2009
Steve Cannon (Austin, TX, USA)
When I first bought the router it seemed to operate OK. However, the latest firmware download has caused a big issue which requires the router to be rebooted almost daily. This is a known problem and D-Link seems to be doing little about it. I would avoid this router if I were you and pay for something that works. I wasted $150 on this router and won't be buying a D-Link product again.

1 out of 5 stars Has alot of issues with latest firmware (1.12NA)   November 23, 2009

I would avoid this router if I were you. The latest firmware (1.12NA) has alot of issues with it locking up and they apparently have no idea how to resolve it. Apparently it used to work flawlessly in firmware version 1.01, which you can't downgrade to. So if you have this router and firmware 1.01, DO NOT UPGRADE IT. Technical Support is pretty much worthless, so you'll be wasting your time getting help from them.

4 out of 5 stars Found a Beta Firmware Fix for SharePort   November 21, 2009
Pete Romano (Lawrence, Kansas USA)
Just thought I'd pass this on, it may be posted in one of the reviews but just in case. I spent over an hour on the phone with the tec support and the answer in the end was to send the router back. What happened is my shared port (I wanted to use for my USB Printer) worked at first then stopped. After searching the D-link forum I came up with a beta firmeare update that fixed the issue:

[...]

Go there to get the files and info you need.

The router itself works just fine for me, I like how flexible it is with the settings. My only issue was with the shared port but I believe I have that sorted out now. I hope this helps someone. Odd the tec support had no clue about the beta release.

1 out of 5 stars RESET Daily or dont buy this router.   November 20, 2009
D. Joshi (Automotive)
Drops connection every few minutes so :
If you are downloading anything which does not have a resume function, Goodluck as it will have to restart from the beginning every few minutes.

Tech Support - Dont waste your time. You are on your own. They will blame everything you have except their router.

If you are a gamer and connected wirelessly with this router, you will get dropped from your game if it last more than 10-12 minutes (I play Team Fortress 2 and had enough frustrations).
I tweaked every setting I could that would resolve this but did not achieve any results. I have the latest Firmware installed.

I have Vonage and I had to reset the router every other day if not everyday to get my phone back up.

On top of everything, I paid a fortune (relatively speaking) for this router.
Xbox 360 website has this router listed as compatible and preferred. I hope they have updated that by now.
I normally don't write reviews but this product is so bad, I feel obliged to the community to post this review.

If you are just an occasional internet browsing individual please just buy a regular G-router and save money.

If you do anything that I do above, avoid this product and spend your money on a deserving product.

I have nothing good to write about this router except once in a while I can check my Gmail and Hotmail, which is great.

Thanks.

3 out of 5 stars disappointing   November 20, 2009

Setup using only the web interface; replacing a Netgear WGR614.
The D-Link menus seem poorly organized.
With over a dozen networked devices, I depend on reserved DHCP settings,
which D-Link does support.
Manually configured 5GHz for a+n, 2.5GHz for g+n.
The DIR-825 automatically selected 2.5GHz channel 6,
which already has several other APs at this location,
so I manually switched it to channel 1, which is unused.
One laptop initially connected on 802.11a with a weak signal.
When I tried to switch it over to 802.11g, it fails to get an IP address
and the D-Link lost all its reserved DHCP settings, which is a PITA,
particularly since (unlike Netgear) D-Link seeming does not provide for saving/restoring settings.
This is with the latest firmware (2.02NA)
