Amazon.com Satan had a smaller budget upon first entering the music business, judging from the low-rent look of these 1970 Black Sabbath performances from German TV. Replete with cheesy post-psychedelic graphics and stonily blank facial expressions, the clips nonetheless put across the power of Sabbath's rudimentary metal on ace versions of "Black Sabbath," "Paranoid," and "Iron Man." One is more frightened for Ozzy Osbourne than of him, though, during the hilariously awful rendition of "Blue Suede Shoes" that closes this well-mastered DVD. --Rickey Wright
Description In 1970, Black Sabbath made two appearances on the Beat Club/Musikladen television series. With their original line-up featuring Tony Iommi on guitar, Terry "Geezer" Butler on bass drums, and Ozzie belting out the vocals. These rare appearances highlight enormous energy projected by this popular rock band. Includes Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Iron Man and Blue Suede Shoes.

Quality over quanity... i suppose November 10, 2009 Colin M. Sheppard Like Bigboogieman said, Ozzie's performance in the opener is just incredible, BETTER then the album. Which brings me to my next point: whichever reviewer said these aren't live performances obviously just can't believe his ears. I suppose, (similar to what im thinking after seeing this) he's never heard Sabbath so polished before in his life, except of course in the studio or maybe he's just never heard Sabbath before. Don't be fooled by his dis-information, there is an OBVIOUS distinction; it's 100% authentic. After jewing us on the length, you really think they'd try and pull something that audacious as well??
Anyhow, it's not just Ozzie; Iomi nails every note, and i'll be damned if anyone can watch this and not just marvel at how beast Geezer and Ward are, especially Geezer: Geezer > Entwistle > JPJ.. sorry if that offends.
So in conclusion- this is probably the best you will ever see the original lineup perform, so if you call yourself a fan press that button; it's easily cheap enough to recommend despite being only 20 min. :/ which is a bittersweet, as i do prefer quality over quantity. Blue Sued shoes is an example; very short but awesome, kinda punk-rockish even.
Short but sweet August 8, 2008 Pierre Borduas This television studio performance of the firt album's big hits (Paranoid, Iron Man, Black Sabbath and a cover of Blue Suede Shoes) is a must for die hard fans, the quality is suprising, the production is corny but that is the charm. The only drawback is that it is bery short.
Promo videos not live! May 27, 2007 Dark one (Austria) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
These are the videos you used to see on headbanger's ball shown and shown again in the 80's. There is no live material here. These are the promo videos. These are definitely studio versions not live!!
But it is simply awesome. Blue suede shoes covered by Sab.. probably won't find it or see it anywhere.
Ozzy goes crazy, I'm convinced that Ozzy invented headbanging! (like the kind we see in trash and metal bands) No one was banging their heads like this before ozzy! Crystal clear quality..
Iron man, Paranoid, Black sabbath, blue suede shoes.
Great stuff October 17, 2005 BigBoogieman (Pennsylvania) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The only thing bad about this is that it's only 4 songs. Well, the fact that one of those 4 songs is "Blue Suede Shoes" isn't so great either. But the performances are excellent, and the quality is good. Ozzy's performance in "Black Sabbath" is incredible, maybe even better than on the album. This is Black Sabbath in their prime, performing these songs live, with amusing hippie video effects over top of it. What more could you ask for? I think this is a must-have for any Sabbath fan.
Black Sabbath:"Black Sabbath" September 24, 2005 D. Lang (Troy, MI. USA) Although I would have preferred seeing Black Sabbath perform "Sweet Leaf" rather than Blue Suede Shoes, the other three songs make up for it.
The title song and band name is what motivated me to purchase this video, despite its short (20 mins) length. I was able to attend one of their reunion shows a few years ago, and this song got the best response from the audience. I also had the album of the same name as a teen, and never dreamed that I would see them perform some of it live over 30 years later.
