Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com The surprising truth about Disney's 1982 computer-game fantasy is that it's still visually impressive (though technologically quaint by later high-definition standards) and a lot of fun. It's about a computer wizard named Flynn (Jeff Bridges) who is digitally broken down into a data stream by a villainous software pirate (David Warner) and reconstituted into the internal, 3-D graphical world of computers. It is there, in the blazingly colorful, geometrically intense landscapes of cyberspace, that Flynn joins forces with Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) to outmaneuver the Master Control program that holds them captive in the equivalent of a gigantic, infinitely challenging computer game. Disney's wizards used a variety of cinematic techniques and early-'80s state-of-the-art computer-generated graphics to accomplish their dynamic visual goals, and the result was a milestone in cyberentertainment, catering to technogeeks while providing a dazzling adventure for hackers and nonhackers alike. Appearing just in time to celebrate the nascent cyberpunk movement in science fiction, Tron received a decidedly mixed reaction when originally released, but has since become a high-tech favorite and a landmark in special effects, with a loyal following of fans. DVD is a perfect format for the movie's neon-glow color scheme, and the musical score by synthesizer pioneer Wendy Carlos is faithfully preserved on the digitally remastered soundtrack. --Jeff Shannon

good, cheap Tron movie September 19, 2009 Ransom My husband really likes this movie and we were waiting for Disney's prices to go down to buy it (yeah, right!), when I decided to look online to see if prices were better. They really were better. Thanks for helping me surprise my husband! He watched the movie the night we received it in the mail. It is in good condition and we received it promtly.

I saw this movie in the theatre and fell in love with Jeff Bridges. I had the VHS but it got misplaced. I saw this and HAD to have it!
Nostalgia June 13, 2009 Ikarian (North Carolina) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I grew up in the 80's, and have found myself recently going back to old music and movies of the time to create nostalgia, and relive some of the memories from that time. I never watched this movie in theaters (I was 4 years old), but was always fascinated with pictures, excerpts and the video game at the arcades of this movie. When I saw the 20th Anniversary Edition of this movie, especially with all of the special features, I had to buy it. I really enjoyed the movie in the context that it took me back to a more fun and innocent time. It brought back many fond memories, and is DEFINITELY a product of its time. Yes, everything involved is extremely outdated, and makes for a very cheesy movie, but that's part of the fun. The only thing is that the creator of the story mentioned Star Wars as one of the biggest inspirations when making this movie, but nothing about this movie can even come close to the phenomenal movie/story that is Star Wars.
Dated.....But Still One Of Those `One-Of-A-Kind' Movies June 11, 2009 Craig Connell (Lockport, NY USA) When this came out, about 25 years ago, the special-effects were eye-popping. I was stunned and saw this twice at the theater, something I rarely did. Nowadays, it looks primitive. It's like when video games first came out, compared to what they are now.
However, a few years ago when this "anniversary" DVD came out with the widescreen and 5.1 surround sound, it made it "respectable" again in parts and made it still fun to watch. There is a ton of supplmental material, too, that you might like.
The story was never that great. There was too much technical talk and the characters were the kind you really couldn't get involved over. Yet,. it's a film you could easily watch over and over again and always be fascinated.
I don't recall any other movie quite like it
The Original Matrix Movie June 2, 2009 Max Headroom (Janesville, WI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Loved this movie when saw it as a kid. And it still holds strong even today. This movie definitely had an influence on the new Matrix movies. But this is much more family friendly...it's Disney!
