Simply the best. November 15, 2009 Rosemarie Rauzino-Heller (D.C. area) If you're a true romantic at heart, there has been no better film made than "Portrait of Jennie". It is lyrical, with excellent performances and an ending that all of us want to believe in. The book is a gem and the movie was definitely worthy of it. Black and white photography was really essential to create the atmosphere looked for in this marvelous film.
Portrait of Jennie November 5, 2009 Xenmom (Seattle, WA) I remember watching this when I was a little girl. As an adult I still enjoy the story as it is so unusual. Jennifer Jones is excellent in this story; somehow portraying a young girl as she ages to a young woman.
The quality of this dvd (not movie) is poor. I don't know if the original film is so degraded that this is the best copy they can make or if I just received a poor copy. It was still worth watching.
If you like odd, slightly eerie, storylines you will appreciate this movie. If you like movies that wrap up all aspects of the storyline this movie isn't for you.
Love this movie one of my all time favs August 11, 2009 Ginger E. Morris (North Carolina) This is one of my all time favorite movies, have loved this since I was a teen and watched it.I first read the book which the movie followed and then saw the movie. I often felt it was a true story, I did look for information on the museum and such to try to find out if it was real. I still feel in my heart it could be because I believe in miracles.Whether it is or not doesn't really matter---it is what we believe in our hearts that does and this love story is so compelling it makes you believe. I love old movies and this is a true classic. Watch and enjoy and allow the magic to happen to you.
A spiritual love story March 25, 2009 R. Bagula (Lakeside, Ca United States) One reason I don't give 5 stars very much is so that I can say that a movie like this is above the crowd.
This love affair of an artist with a ghost could of have been done badly,
but here it is a story of two twinned souls displaced in time and space
that find each other.
The story turns their tragedy of love and loss into great art.
The acting and filming in places could have been better, but were
well enough to get a special effects Academy Award.
I'm very glad I saw this movie.
