Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com Although it could have been twice as long, this double-DVD set effectively captures over three hours of highlights from one of the most comprehensive and diverse collection of guitarists ever assembled for a single event. Recorded over three days in June of 2004 to benefit Eric Clapton's Crossroads Center in Antigua (as do the sales of this set), the show is not surprisingly heavy on the rootsy blues and country that comprise Clapton's primary inspirations. But it also includes folk (James Taylor), gospel (Robert Randolph & the Family Band), fret-shredding rockers (Steve Vai who delivers a dazzling performance), jazz (John McLaughlin), and, most interestingly, Indian classical music (a stunning piece from Vishwa Mohan Bhatt). Most compelling are the rare and sometimes unusual collaborations. Joe Walsh and Taylor clown around on "Steamroller Blues," and Booker T. & the M.G.'s back both Joe Walsh on a rollicking "Rocky Mountain Way" and Los Lobos' David Hidalgo tearing into a sizzling "The Neighborhood." Clapton and J.J. Cale share the stage as do Clapton and Carlos Santana, and a show-stopping blues summit with Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan, Hubert Sumlin, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Clapton is a treat for all involved. There are some shortcomings. The event isn't presented in chronological order--different stages, days, and backing bands are shuffled with Clapton's own set scattered throughout--ZZ Top's closing is a bit anticlimactic, and there are many omissions due to time constraints. But every act rises to the occasion, and this expertly recorded and shot DVD gives the viewer a front-row seat to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. --Hal Horowitz

rockin' stars August 31, 2009 Irving Barnett Aguilera (Santa Cruz, CA.) this is a great double disc video, I can't get enough of it, Eric Clapton has done a great job with this one, gathering all these musicians, all great performances a must have.
Received incorrect DVD and was never able to resolve the problem April 18, 2009 R. W. Brandt (The Woodlands, Texas) 0 out of 9 found this review helpful
Instead of the Eric Clapton Crossroads DVD, I received Casino Royale. I contacted the seller via the prescribed e-mail channel and was never able to get a response. I did not want to waste more time on it, but getting a movie I already owned was of no value. I will not shop here again.
Love it! March 26, 2009 J. Tutterrow (St. Charles, MO) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this for christmas a long time ago and loved it. Anybody who can play is there! Buy it for the guitar lover in your family
Great DVD despite the ZZ letdown March 26, 2009 Insect P. - 3Mile Island (Dallas) Great DVD! Having attended this show, it is nice to be able to relive the included sets that showcase a wide variety of styles and classic performances that mesh together magically with the exception of the final two acts: the worn Santana drum/synth sound (what happened to his guitar?) and the ZZ Top 'cartoon show' we have all seen repeated a million times over in arenas and at the Super Bowl. I am an original ZZ fan from the beginning but I am so looking forward to Rick Rubins 'makeover' of our "Little Old Band". Still, thanks to Eric Clapton for delivering an awesome 3 days of music to my doorstep.
It doesn't get any better than this! March 11, 2009 William I love to see and hear top notch guitar playing by the true masters of Blues and Rock&Roll. Eric Clapton is one of the very best and he has gathered together an amazing group of guitar players who created and played the music from the early days to the present. I can't recommend this DVD any higher. It's a must have so get it today.
