Product Description An affectionate parody that pays homage to the Frankenstein films (from the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley) directed by James whale in the 1930s, young Frankenstein is both a zany comedy and a cinematic tour de force. Written by director Mel brooks and the film's star, gene wilder, young Frankenstein has all the usual--and in this case slightly unusual--suspects: the reluctant scientist Frederick Frankenstein, who is actually the grandson of the infamous creature-creator (pronounced "Fronken-steen" and played by wilder), his spoiled fiance (Madeline Kahn), Igor the pop-eyed hunchback (Marty Feldman), his dizzy assistant (Teri Garr), the castle's hideous head housekeeper (Cloris Leachman), and, of course, the monster (Peter Boyle). Highlights include the sets, which are the original ones used in the whale films; the beautiful black-and-white cinematography; and the fine screenplay. Combining noirish elegance with uproarious sight gags and double entendres is a feat Brooks pulls off fabulously, directing the wonderful ensemble to act with sensitivity and humanistic feelings as well as with lunatic abandon. Young Frankenstein is a treat from beginning to end.
Amazon.com essential video If you were to argue that Mel Brooks's Young Frankenstein ranks among the top-ten funniest movies of all time, nobody could reasonably dispute the claim. Spoofing classic horror in the way that Brooks's previous film Blazing Saddles sent up classic Westerns, the movie is both a loving tribute and a raucous, irreverent parody of Universal's classic horror films Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). Filming in glorious black and white, Brooks re-created the Frankenstein laboratory using the same equipment from the original Frankenstein (courtesy of designer Kenneth Strickfaden), and this loving attention to physical and stylistic detail creates a solid foundation for nonstop comedy. The story, of course, involves Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) and his effort to resume experiments in re-animation pioneered by his late father. (He's got some help, since dad left behind a book titled How I Did It.) Assisting him is the hapless hunchback Igor (Marty Feldman) and the buxom but none-too-bright maiden Inga (Teri Garr), and when Frankenstein succeeds in creating his monster (Peter Boyle), the stage is set for an outrageous revision of the Frankenstein legend. With comedy highlights too numerous to mention, Brooks guides his brilliant cast (also including Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, and Gene Hackman in a classic cameo role) through scene after scene of inspired hilarity. Indeed, Young Frankenstein is a charmed film, nothing less than a comedy classic, representing the finest work from everyone involved. Not one joke has lost its payoff, and none of the countless gags have lost their zany appeal. From a career that includes some of the best comedies ever made, this is the film for which Mel Brooks will be most fondly remembered. Befitting a classic, the Special Edition DVD includes audio commentary by Mel Brooks, a "making of" documentary, interviews with the cast, hilarious bloopers and outtakes, and the original theatrical trailers. No video library should be without a copy of Young Frankenstein. And just remember--that's Fronkensteen. --Jeff Shannon

Young Frankenstein November 20, 2009 Elizabeth LaTrace This is an incredibly funny movie! I recommend this to anyone with a love of funny horror! Peter Boyle and Gene Wilder are hilarious!
Buy the Blu-ray NOW! Greatly improved over the DVD. November 19, 2009 TomT Not sure what some were looking at, but there is no comparison between the DVD
and this Blu-ray. I looked at my DVD, and there was very heavy compression.
I'd go so far as to say it looked like crap.
This Blu-ray looks great. If you love this movie,
you'll enjoy this Blu-ray.
There are people complaining about the grain.
It's on the DVD too. With HD, it'll be more noticeable,
as the higher detail allows more of the natural film grain
to be visible. But it looks normal to me.
Glad to see this classic on Blu-ray.

I thought the product was exactly what I was looking for and there weren't any problems with the condition of the DVD and all specifications for the DVD's condition were mentioned in the write-up about the product.
Who doesn't love this movie. November 12, 2009 Tanya Phillips (Boulder, CO) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's a good movie, what else is there to say.
If you're thinking about buying it, just buy it, you won't be disappointed.
do not buy this blu-ray!!! November 7, 2009 b pitz (chicago, IL) this transfer is terrable. i put in my gutterboxed dvd & zoomed it in to fill up the screen & the picture is better on the standard dvd. why can't fox put out a decent copy of this movie. what a shame. 5 star movie on a zero star dvd. i will think twice before buying & 20th century fox blu rays or dvds. i think there needs to be some standard in order to put a blu ray label on a film. i have seen movies twice as old transfered to blu ray that have spectacular picture quality. beware not all blu rays created equal!
