Amazon.com Sir Percy Blakeney (Leslie Howard) is an English aristocrat leading a double life, by day he's an effete aristocrat and by night he's the Scarlet Pimpernel, rescuing French nobles from the clutches of the French revolution under Robespierre's Reign of Terror. Not even his wife suspects that Blakeney is the Scarlet Pimpernel and his cause strikes close to home when his brother-in-law, a French nobleman, is taken by the French revolutionaries and sentenced to death by guillotine. This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

DVD -- scarlet pimpernel w/Leslie Howard, Merle Oberon -- 1934 September 25, 2009 James W. Hayne (los angeles, ca USA) Leslie Howard is Sir Percy Blakeney - a foppish fashion-hound English aristocrat by day -- but a daring Robin Hood type adventurer by night -- saving innocents from Madame Guillotine during the French Revolution -- terrific dual-identity hero stuff -- Raymond Massey is great as Howard's antagonist -- Merle Oberon was considered a siren in her day -- also featuring an early Nigel Bruce, later to become well-known as Dr.Watson alongside Basil Rathbone's Sherlock Holmes -- unquestionably Howard's greatest role -- and my personal favourite movie hero -- also best costumes ever -- JH --
A classic! September 9, 2009 DutchRabbit (desert SW) If you enjoy the se stories, you'll like this classic version. It holds up well, even 70+ years later.
Poor Print Qualtiy, No Cover August 2, 2009 M. donnelly 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yes, this is an old movie, but the quality was much poorer than the video I have of it, and there was no cover picture for the DVD. I was very disappointed and certainly won't order from this source again.
A great transfer July 6, 2009 Mr. Infinity (Seattle, WA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The synergy brand DVD is an excellent transfer for this very, very old movie. It didn't have any color changes or blobs running through the frames, and it was clear with good contrast. If you want a copy of this old gem, you should buy the Synergy product.
The movie itself is a wonderful old drama about a hero of the French revolutionary period, much like the Zorro tales. It is one of the best for those who like old movies.
