Amazon.com Review
When a visitor--wanted or unwanted--approaches a house on foot or in a vehicle the motion-detecting sensor unit of this warning device sends a signal to the receiver indoors, which chimes an alert. The device is wireless and has a 400-foot range. It requires three C-cell batteries for the receiver and one 9-volt battery for the transmitting sensor. (Batteries are not included.) The sensor is housed in weather-resistant plastic, installs with a screw on any surface, such as a mailbox post, garage, or door, and measures 4-1/4 inches high, 2-5/8 inches wide, and 2-1/4 inches deep. The portable receiver has an identical housing, can be set to chime high or low (or turned off), and measures 5 inches high, 3-5/8 inches wide, and 1-1/2 inches deep. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars Alzheimers   November 28, 2009
Linda A. Tabor (Tampa, FL)
This product has been a real help for me with my husband who has alzheimers disease. He had the habit of going into the kitchen and helping himself to anything he could find. He, at times obsesses on one type of food or another and overeats. I have been able to use this to monitor the kitchen. I know this is not the usual way to use this but, for me, it has been a lifesaver. The product arrived promptly and works very well. The only "Problem" I had was the alert sound was a little loud, even set on the low level. I put tape over the speaker and it has helped. I would recommend this product for whatever way it is used.

2 out of 5 stars This worked great for a week or two   November 22, 2009
a reader (NYC)
When I set this up it worked like a charm and I was very pleased with my purchase. When it stopped working, as recommended by some reviewers, I placed it inside a cozy birdhouse where it would be protected from the rain and wind. It worked a few times after that but then stopped working again altogether. It was great while it lasted and it is indeed a bargain for those people for whom it functions as intended, but not for me.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product. Reliable, simple, inexpensive, & effective.   November 19, 2009

The short end of it is this: It's one of the least expensive models of its kind, yet it is well-manufactured, simple to use, its chime audible, and the system works with complete reliability. The retail price fluctuates around $ 17, making this an extremely good value for the money.

In order to maintain subjectivity, I must reach for something (anything) to complain about. Hmmmm.... That's a tough one.

OK - this is nit-picky (but like I said, "subjectivity"). The one problem in an otherwise outstanding product. This isn't a deal-breaker; just an "imperfection".

So here's the one problem. One of the battery covers requires a phillips head screwdriver to open. Why??? I don't usually walk around with a phillips head screwdriver on me? Fortunately - the other unit has just a little door latch you open with your fingers. (I do usually walk around with my fingers on me.)

Because of my dislike for the tiny phillips head screw system - I just threw them out & use a rubberband instead. Works fine.

Other than that - this product is flawless in every way.

Basically - you position the "Sensor" where you expect traffic (perhaps near your front door, or in your driveway), and then you place the other unit (the "Chime") in a location near where you spend most of your relax time (like - say - in your office, or bedroom).

When someone approaches the "Sensor" in your driveway, you hear the "Chime" in your office. This chime can be set to "LOW" or "HIGH" volume, and of course - with a little imagination, you can fine-tune it even more (for example - we put our chime inside our closet, and close the door. That way it's not too loud, but we can still hear it).

The outside "Sensor" has a small hole designed so it can be hung from a nail. But it also has a flat base, so you can set it on a table.

Furthermore, the outdoor "sensor" has a small red LED light which illuminates when it detects motion. I suppose this could be a good thing - if you want potential thieves to know they've been detected; perhaps scare them off.

But I don't want people (good or bad) to know they've been detected. So I cover that little red light with black duct-tape. Of course I don't cover the motion sensor itself; just the little red light.

The sensor is extremely sensitive, and can be positioned different ways to yield different sensivities.

BUY IT!

4 out of 5 stars Good Product   November 19, 2009
James Abraham
I bought this to warn me of people entering my property. It took me a little time to get this setup the way I wanted it. I mounted it about 4 feet high to cover across my carport to the house, but it still goes off when Cats walk by! It seems that the morning sun also sets it off. It will need more adjustments. The PIR sensor range falls short of what they claim; 20'x 30 feet. The best I got where it worked well was 18 feet. In all... it's a pretty good product and worth the price.
