Product Description At 10.2 ounces, Kindle is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

PERFECT for any bookworm! November 27, 2009 IntheGroove (New Orleans, LA USA) My siblings and I bought this as an 82nd birthday present for our book-loving mother. We all thought there would be a learning curve, along with some "fear of technology". We were so wrong! She took to it immediately, and absolutely loves it. The display is crisp and beautiful; downloading books is easy (we can even do it for her from our PC's). There's no perpetual pile of old books. There's no waiting around, wishing she had something to read -- she can download something new instantly! This is the perfect gift. Now we all want one, too. Thanks, Amazon, for a great ebook reader!
A surprisingly great value and super convenience. November 27, 2009 Baltimore Bob (Baltimore, MD USA) Initially I questioned why I should spend $249 for a Kindle plus pay $9.99 for each book. Sounded to me like adding insult to injury. Well, my wife (who is much smarter than I) noticed my interest but also my fence sitting for the Kindle. She also recognized the value of the product in terms of convenience and value. She decided to buy one for me for Christmas and give it to me early. I was flabbergasted. Upon trying it out I was amazed and thrilled with its features, convenience and value. Reade the word "value" as "cost savings"! Yes, cost savings because many, many titles are free and many more are less than $5.00. I'm talking about good ones too! Being retired I have become an avid reader but cost is very important to me. Sure, you can pay $9.99 or even more for a Kindle technical reference book or a new release by an established popular author. It is still less expansive than driving to the discount club and paying $6.95 for a limited selection of offerings. Right now I say that the Kindle 2 is wonderful and promises to only get better with ongoing software updated by Amazon. By the way, while waiting for my eyes to dilate at the Dr.'s office last Wednesday I had no problem whatsoever reading. All I needed to do was enlarge the print. While using the Kindle one of the Docs and one of the patients were so impressed with the Kindle that they said they were going to purchase one that evening! Needless to say I didn't get as much reading done as I would have liked because of all the demonstrations to interested people. It was fun and a pleasure demonstrating this wonderful product.
Indispensable Travellers' Companion November 27, 2009 Christine Vocking Brilliant product. I can download books as I travel and not be burdened with kilos of paper. The speed of download, the possibility to sample, the price, the physical ease of holding and reading .... all first class. I have just one niggle which I hope will be corrected over time. I am English and would like to see more English/European literature available.
Kindle International November 27, 2009 Mirja Meyer-Friese I ordered the Kindle the moment it became available internationlly. It is wonderful - easy to read from, not too heavy to hold or travel with. The wireless download works very quickly and easily.
Carl S November 27, 2009 Carl Steinberg I have been very happy with the Kindle Device. I enjoy reading in bed and it's great not to have to feel like I am weight lifting at night reading a hardcover book. A nice feature is the varible font sizes.
