Epson Photo Scanner November 27, 2009 Norman D. Parker (Maryland, USA) While the scanner works well, I have a problem with the supplied Arch Soft software, Media Impressions. The software pulled all my computers pictures into it's program, but all I can see is a black box where I should see a picture. I called Arch Soft, which in itself was a terrible experience. I was on hold for at least 20 minutes each of the two times I phoned attempting to resolve the issue. They were of little help, said remove and re-install the software, which I did to no avail.
Now I have a scanner, slide organizer, and old photos that I was hoping to scan and make prints, but I am unable to do any of those things I bought the scanner for to begin with thanks to the failure of the Arch Soft software and the inability of the techs to assist me. A dissapointment!
Great scanner for slides! November 27, 2009 chigliak (Norton Shores, MI USA) I've already got an Epson all-in-one scanner, and got this specifically for scanning slides. The software is very user-friendly, and easy to adjust the details of the scan (resolution, color tones, etc). I'm sold on Epson products.
Scanner hangs / freezes (Win 7 problem?) November 26, 2009 Ed Matthews (Texas) I downloaded the latest drivers for Win 7 64 bit from Epson web site, the connected the scanner.
I found that using either the included software or Vuescan resulted in the scanner locking up. The only way to resolve this was to unplug the unit. It wasn't just the software hanging, but the unit itself as the power button also refused to work once the unit had hung up.
I don't know if the problem is related to Windows 7 64 bit or the unit itself.
It's going back to the store.
Fast and Easy November 20, 2009 Wesley A. Brown (Redondo Beach, CA) This scanner was bought so that I could scan documents and photos for a book on my family history, a second edition to the one I did in 1999. It covers ancestors back to 1290 AD. There are handwritten items, clippings, and miscellaneous articles, some with photos.
The scanner enhances dull print and scans 20 items in about 30 minutes, improving the readability of the items. Scans go to a folder in My Documents and they will later be transferred to a Word 97 document where they can be labelled. From that Word 97 file, they will be either printed as a book of about 120 pages or made into CDs for distribution to the family.
The scanner is very easy to operate once one learns the simple procedure. I don't recall getting paper instructions but I wondered how to turn it off for a while(press the on button more than 3 seconds), for example. It's wonderful!
