4 out of 5 stars Everything great except for Replay feature   November 28, 2009
G. Morris
I really like the Fuze player. I would "love" it but for one small thing. The Replay gain function in the current firmware revision is broken, and in my player's case if I select to change my Fuze's Replay gain attributes, the firmware locks up and i have to restart the player.

Otherwise the Fuze is a really nice, straightforward and high quality piece of work. It's easy to transfer music, using the connected computer to do the work by simply acting like an external SD Card; no need for a monopolistic, my-way-or-the-highway music player software like a certain iSomething requires. The sound quality is excellent and would be perfect but for the loss of Replay gain adjustments. The controls and menu structure are easy enough to learn that I was doing fine after about 45 seconds. The video does fine on its tiny little screen, but that wasn't why I got it.

The real kicker is the microSDHD card slot. I also play music on my PDA phone. It has a microSDHD slot in it. I use a great 3rd party music player software package on it to listen to my tunes which I load onto the microSD card by just copying files. With the Fuze I can use it to play the music files on any of my microSD cards that I use for my phone with zero need to copy into a new folder structure. The Fuze's firmware searches a newly inserted microSD card for media files, then catalogs them and there you are with access to all the compatible media files. It takes a few minutes for a 3.2GB load of MP3 files but that's not a big deal 'cause once its done, its done.
You can also sync it using Media Monkey or Windows Media Player so if you have to use your media the way the industry wants you to use it, you can.

So it has gone through a few firmware revisions since the model was introduced. It's been at the same version since July and they have acknowledged the flaw in the Replay functionality. They say they're fixing it in the next version of the firmware. I wonder when they will release it?

4 out of 5 stars execellent for someone my age with absolutely no computer savy.   November 27, 2009

Excellent little little gadget which even I can operate and the cost was not bad.My only complaint is that I am having trouble finding a docking station with speakers on which I can play it and recharge it at the same time.Everything I buy seem to be made for ipods only and will only allow me to play the MP3 but not recharge it.Any recommendations?

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic MP3 Player   November 27, 2009
Michael Anteau (Toledo, OH United States)
I've been wanting an MP3 player for jogging and working out. I also use it when driving to work, since there aren't a lot of good radio stations around and most are talk in the morning. The Sansa Fuze is excellent for this! The sound quality is great, and it's very easy to use and to sync with Windows Media Player. I bought the accessory arm band and it works well for running and lifting weights. This is an excellent player for the price and I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Impressed! Fuze better than Sansa e280!   November 27, 2009

I upgraded to the Fuze after owning the Sansa e280 for almost 2 years, and I must say it took a while to see the improvements - but they are there!

Pros:
+Instead of having to play a song in order to add it to my "GoList" (as with the e280), I now can just hold down the center button while scrolling over my songs)
+Good Battery life - lasts for hours, and charges well.
+Beautiful look
+Easy to use and great sound
+Screen is bright enough even on brilliant days (adjustable too)
+Icons showing the album covers make identifying the album you want at a glance easier
+Much more tightly built design than e280 (no dust accumulation under the screen)
+Much cheaper than the e280!

Cons:
-Album cover artwork doesn't make it into the player as often as they did in the e280
-The menu/power button on the e280 has been divided into a button and a hold-switch (I preferred the e280's button more for its simplicity)
-Screen resolution is not like the Ipod, but still good enough for a short movie

Overall, I highly recommend this player to anyone considering a tough, easy to use, and AFFORDABLE mp3 player.

4 out of 5 stars IT-literate but not gear fanatic   November 26, 2009

Being new to the whole thumbwheel idea, it took a few minutes to figure out that in certain UI contexts one MUST use the wheel (e.g. scroll down/up) for actions that could just as easily be triggered via the wheel buttons (up/down buttons have no effect). That aside, the UI is intuitive enough to not get in the way.

Since I'm using it almost exclusively when exercising/working in the yard, I have a strap-on rubberized case for it. The on/off/hold button is a bit difficult to control through the case. Everything else about it works nicely. I would recommend reading through the PDF user guide once, e.g. to make sure you are running the latest firmware update (which is not shipped already installed).
