Product Description It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn't be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon's most innovative camera technology. Even when picture-taking conditions seem pretty unforgiving, you've got Canon on your side. So the shots you used to miss are the images you'll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD unforgettable.

great camera November 24, 2009 Tim C. Weigle (AMARILLO, TX, US) This little thing is the exact size of a credit card (well thicker of course) and takes fantastic pictures for a point and shoot, as well as very nice HD video. I have a 4GB memory card in it and can hold quite a bit of video if I want. Only gripe, and it's very nitpicky is that shooting a lot of video kills the battery fairly quickly, but that obviously wasn't its primary purpose. Battery is excellent if only taking photos
Great little camera with HD Video November 24, 2009 Guy Meiron (South Dakota) This is a great little camera. If your looking for a high quality camera that will fit in your pocket than look no further. Being little though you must realize the the buttons are small. The image quality is very good and the HD video is awesome however if you have an old computer you may not have a video card good enough to view it with. I got a new computer and it shows it fine but my old computer it is shaky on. I had an SD600 camera prior to this camera that I loved but the shutter expired after three years. Thanks to an awesome warranty through Office Depot I got my money back. I felt bad for buying from Amazon as Office Depot treated me very well but I didn't want to wait to get a new camera and I didn't know if Office Depot was going to come through but they did. The Amazon transaction was very easy and I have no complaints. Shipping was fast and communication was good. If I had an complaints it would be how small the power button is but like I said this is a very portable but powerful camera.
Good camera November 16, 2009 A. Sanders Overall, pleased with this camera. Portability is great. Picture quality not as good when zoomed in. My first video seemed a bit "jerky" and not very smooth.

Pleasantly surprised at video Quality November 13, 2009 P. Wieselquist (Boston, MA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've used lots of digicams. My initial impression of the SD780IS is that it does a great job for its size, and my Made-in-Japan version seems sturdy and well-built.
There are plenty of good reviews here about the PQ of the still shots, so I won't comment there, and I'm not much of a photographer anyway.
But for the video, I'm very impressed. I've tried 3 or 4 different still cams that do HD video, and so far the Canon rules them all. It beats the video from my main digicam, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. Although the TZ5 lets you zoom while shooting, it inevitably loses focus while doing so. So that's a wasted feature.
In contrast, you cannot zoom on the Canon while shooting, but you can pre-zoom before hitting the record button. This trade-off in my opinion, is worth the far better video quality of the Canon. The color is true and there is a lot less noise and graininess than the Panasonic. Just make sure you disable the digital zoom.
Don't expect miracles for video from any still camera. My only expectation was respectable video quality under optimal (i.e. daylight) conditions. No still camera will ever replace my HF200 as a camcorder, but for spontaneous daylight clips, this camera is great to have in my pocket.
