 Great little camera for general use November 23, 2009

My first digital camera was an Olympus Camedia with a 10X optical zoom. It was a great camera, but it was nearly impossible to carry around in case I wanted to get a shot of something or other. That's simply not a problem with the Canon A1100IS. It'll fit just about anywhere you might carry a wallet. Additionally, the construction is robust enough that I don't think you have to worry about crushing it unless you sit directly on it.
Ease of use is completely fine. Some of the icons on the various buttons take a little getting used to, but that's really not a problem. Maybe most important for people like me with very large hands and fingers, the camera is still quite easy to operate. As far as picture quality goes, it's more than fine. Granted, I use enhancement software, 'cause I like to push color saturation or contrast or whatever, but the images are just fine without fiddling - particularly in terms of sharpness and clarity.
Overall, if you're looking for an affordable all around camera that you can take with you and leave the camera bag behind, this is an extremely good choice.
