Product Description
Bright light therapy lamps work to beat Seasonal Affective Disorder and the Winter Blues For your health and safety, choose only products that have been clinically tested and meet all Design Standards set out by research experts - such as Day-LightsTM, which are recommended by the non-profit Center for Environmental Therapeutics (CET), and used exclusively in a new light therapy clinical program at Columbia University's Presbyterian Hospital. CET Standards for Light Box Design: Only light boxes should be used for bright light therapy. Visors have not yet been shown effective in placebo-controlled studies. The light box should provide 10,000 lux of illumination at a comfortable sitting distance (with the eyes 12 inches or more from the center of the screen). The lamps should give off white light rather than colored light. (Extended exposure to blue light may be harmful to the eyes, and red light is not effective for light therapy.) Fluorescent lamps should have a filter that blocks ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays are harmful to the eyes and skin. The light source should be covered with a smooth diffusing screen that evens the delivery of light. Bare bulbs and sharp points of light can produce intolerable glare, forcing your gaze out of the therapeutic field. Color temperature of lamps should be in the 3000-5000 Kelvin range for comfortable usage. Light boxes should be equipped with high-efficiency ballasts that operate at 20,000 cycles per second in order to avoid flicker that can cause headaches.

5 out of 5 stars No more winter funk!   November 24, 2009
Jen B
Northeast Ohio = no sun for most of the time between late fall and early spring. I knew I had to do SOMETHING to deal with that "winter funk" that would take over when the abundant clouds settled in. After doing some research I settled on the Uplift Technologies DL930 Day-Light. This thing WORKS. I use it everyday for 20-30 minutes at about the same time in the morning when I'm eating breakfast (after my workout). No more depression or lethargy day after day! I noticed a difference by the fourth day. It's light-weight and easy to move. As mentioned in other reviews - it is delivered as a box in a box. The outside box looked like they played a game of rugby with it during transit. The inside box is packed well and nothing was broken.

4 out of 5 stars This is a quality light for the money!   November 16, 2009

After trying the SAD light for varying degrees of time and at different amounts of lux, I still could not shake the side effects. My eyes hurt, I had a headache, stomach ache, and the jitters. I bought it for my manic depression that was worse seasonally, but definately due to bi-polar disorder. And, I had read there is a risk of the SAD therapy causing mania in those folks who struggle with bi-polar disorder. I decided I would give it a try.

I have returned the light- though I am very impressed with the quality of the light itself and my purchase and experience buying from Amazon. I would definately recommend both to others who struggle with SAD!!! Great value so it seems!

4 out of 5 stars brightens up a dreary winter morning   November 13, 2009

Very bright, makes the room feel like a summer morning instead of a dreary winter one. Legs could be a bit more stable, but not a major drawback.

5 out of 5 stars Happy Mom   November 6, 2009
V. Martinson (MN)
I LOVE THIS THING!!!! I live in MN and have helped 9 people to get this lamp. I have found if I use it on a daily basis before 9am I can survive the winter without the usual crash of emotions. I have had it for 2 years now. I can not say enough good things about it. I get a double positive effect now - I put a plant hook in the ceiling over my treadmill and hung it from their... 15 minutes a day I am a happy mom and one more step closer to being fit.

Great product. Made a difference in my SAD after the first week. Product also came quickly and was packaged very well. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone suffering from SAD.
