As an ER physician for 23 years I have researched and used every otoscope on the market. My goal was to design an inexpensive otoscope that would be as functional in detecting eardrum abnormalities as the very expensive models I use at work. I also wanted it to be very durable. I accidentally ordered this one, and immediately returned it. It's not that it's fundamentally a bad product, but I intended on getting the LED otoscope. This one has an incandescent bulb, which not only drains batteries 10 times faster than an LED, but has a lifetime on the order of hours.
For the technically minded, the LED otoscope appears to have a DC-DC boost converter, so it should still work even when the batteries are very low.

Fantastic earscope especially for the price. I am so happy with my purchase. I can see my childs eardrum so clearly with this marvelous little tool. Why did I not know about these before now. I just stumbled across the otoscope when I was searching for a book about ear infections. I did not know they were even available to the general public. I thought the only way I could check on the ears of my daughter was to take her into the pediatrician and pay my $35 co-pay.
It is so easy to look in her ear and check her eardrum for redness. What you see is what you get. It also comes with directions to a webpage link that has wonderful color eardrum pictures and directions.
I am so happy with my purchase.You will not go wrong with this otoscope.

This is an awesome product. I had an otoscope before that I couldn't see anything with, but Doctor Mom's is different! It is easy to see all the way into your child's ear, plus it comes with color photos that show you what you are looking for! I would recommend this product to anyone who has small children who get recurring ear infections. It will save you many many trips to the doctor to just SEE if they have an ear infection!
