Pricey October 2, 2009 just2Bjulie (Orem, Utah) I bought my first one at Amazon but comparison shopped for the next. I'm so glad I checked elsewhere--found them for half the price. I'm a loyal Amazon customer and hate it when they're not even in the ballpark. Oh, well.
Good one July 9, 2009 G. Machingal (Los Angeles, CA) I bought this product after going through all the reviews. The product does what it says...I have seen considerable reduction in the white dust accumulation in the room and well as mineral deposits on the operating surface of the humidifier. I have used it only for 1 month now...and the filter is still working...
Cons:- Only problem i found was that the filter doesnt fit the humidifier perfectly. [To the first time users - this filter replaces the existing cap of the humidifier tank].
I own the Crane Penguin humidifier and the tank sits on the base perfectly with the original cap. But with the filter (even after securing it tightly to the tank) the tank doesn't sit perfectly on to its base...it remains a bit raised (due to the imperfection of the filter) and causes the water vapors to leak thru the sides...not a big deal though. And I am not sure whether it's a problem with the particular piece i bought.
doesn't fit Penguin model correctly May 25, 2009 LalaLand (Tucson, AZ United States) I live in the desert and bought the filter to help with the hard water. However, when I use the filter and put the water tank on the base, it no longer sits flush. It comes up just a little bit, so steam comes out the back, and it's sort of close to the on/off switch. It didn't seem like a good idea to allow that to continue, so I will be returning the filter for a refund.
Crane humidifier filter - not worth it May 9, 2009 Adam's and Brian's Mom (Virginia) We have hard water in our house, so I thought this filter would help, but, in fact, it made things worse... every time we added water to the humidifier, we noticed that the plastic was orange and slimy. Now that we've removed the filter, we don't have this problem. Maybe it works better with soft water.
Does the job April 18, 2009 Pavel Snopok 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My humidifier is a penguin-shaped one. I had no problem whatsoever installing the filter. The only thing that you want to keep in mind is that you have to give it 15 minutes to pre-soak, so that the water from the tank starts to get through. I've been using it for about a month now, no white dust whatsoever.
The only concern of mine is whether you win anything with this filter pricewise: it costs around $8 and serves for about two months. So, you should see for yourself whether it is cheaper than buying filtered water to fill the humidifier up. Ultimately, it boils down to how intense you use your humidifier.
